    I have an e1705 and a problem that refuses to go away.

    This needs to be fixed yesterday! Every time I click on the volume slider in windows, the computer makes a very very loud beep. It sounds like the PC speaker. I mute everything, and it keeps happening. I put headphones on and it keeps happening. What is going on? This really stinks in quiet places, b/c you can only adjust the volume with the bottons up front, or in the app.

    Is anybody else having this problem?

    HELP!

    thanks-

    If you want to disable pc speaker go in to device manager click view then show hidden devices - then under Non Plug and Play Drivers you will find Beep.....you should disable that and all of your annoying and startling beeps should go away.

    Just an FYI for those of us still searching for a solution to the annoying beep thing:

    I did the above and I still get the beep. Random as far as I can tell. I have disabled every sound and beep recommended in various threads and none have yet to solve the problem.

    Anyone here been able to completely disable this random beep?

    Thanks. This is annoying.

    Usually you get this beep if you selected "No Sounds" in your sound scheme (control panel-->sound & audio devices-->sounds.

    There is an registery edit that worked on my system. I'll have to find it. It seems to be a hit or miss with the device manager solution. You can also download TweakUI, and it has a setting to disable the beep.

    [edit]Here is the registry edit:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER-->Control Panel-->Sound--> "Beep"="no" "ExtendedSounds"="no"

    Just an update. I called Dell and they thought it might be the memory chips so they had me pull them and reseat them. I will post if this fixes the problem. Thanks.
