Got my Vostro 1400 today, everything is great, but I went into 'System' and noticed that it was saying my CPU was 1.6 GHz. and that it was a T5470. I ordered and paid for a T5270.

Is it normal for a part like this to be substituted? Obviously I am very happy, but I assume this is official with Dell and I do not need to worry about warranty issues?

    Thanks!

Send it back and demand the lesser CPU for which you paid. Damn, I can't believe some of the stunts these manufacturers pull! :D

Seriously, you could call Dell and ask what happened, ( [IMG]) but I wouldn't lose any sleep over this. Probably was an issue with supply, or just a simple mistake on Dell's part. I can't imagine Dell wanting to take the CPU back and replace it with the one you actually ordered now that you've got the machine.

If its a mistake at the factory, the greater it is for you. Maybe they were short on supply and thus upgraded it.

But check your invoice/quote to make sure you weren't charged for a T5470.

Check your drink for a roofie, Dell might be trying to take advantage of you.

Anyway, you might as well call. I don't think they would try to take it back, but who knows.

No way they would want to take it back. They would just throw the old chip away.

Ghola - they did send some Aquadots with the computer, hmmmm...

Bank error in your favor... collect $200.

I guarantee that is exactly what happened...my question is how common is this? Would they give you a better video card (8600 vs. 8400 in the 1700, for example), a bigger HD, etc.?

Very slim chance the 'wrong' part was put in, they could not afford inventory control issues where the wrong part got in the wrong computer...imagine if I ended up with a Celeron  Or if I ended up with T7700 :p

Anyway, I am sure one happy camper - but as a business major, I am left scratching my head (I could see it with a small firm, but DELL!!!???)

    Thanks guys.

Oh, its running Half-Life Episode 2 like a champ (just had to turn all the settings down to run it at 1440x900 smoothly).
