I returned my M1530 due to the screen. Although I still think Dell ruined a very nice machine I have to compliment them on their return policy and performance.

They did sort of mess up because initially they only refunded back the machine and didn't refund $12 or so for the lojack software. But after bringing that to their attention they refunded everything with no issues and I got my credit in about a week.

I did use a Dell preferred account to pay so that may have had something to do with the speed at which the refund was given.

I'll definitely purchase from Dell one day again... when I'm not looking for a quality laptop.

Dells service has been great for me, and their laptops I've purchased have been great and "quality" for their price. I dont know the details on your purchase, and I'm not making a personal attack, just stating a general opinion, I have read a ton of threads from folks who just expect too much, if your paying sub 1K for a modern high powered machine with a fair amount of trimmings, some imperfections are to be expected, especially if compared to higher priced makes/models.

I'm sure many people have great experiences with Dell and in fact I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that has worked well for 3 years.

My purchase was an XPS M1530. It was about $2000 after discounts (~$2600 before discounts). It came with a very poor screen and a lot of people have the same issue. I expect for a $2000 machine the screen to be at least of acceptable quality, but really it was not. My Inspiron 6000 screen is brighter, clearer and has about 90 degrees of better viewing angles.

If I paid sub $1000 then it'd be no problem and I'd accept it but the XPS line is supposed to be Dell's higher end model.

I have no problem with Dell. I just think they messed up on the XPS M1530. When I'm looking for a lower end laptop in the future I'll definitely consider Dell again. Hopefully they will have smoothed out their screen issues by then.

Thats the biggest problem with the merry go round of vendors they use, consistency, especially with components like the screen, a friend/ co worker etc gets one, you love it, you order the same thing, and when you get it its not the same thing.

Their service is great, and that's probably why I'm going to stick with them in the future. I have my third 1330 on the way, but if they want to keep building new computers and throwing them my way until one sticks then I'm fine with that.

That's actually a good point. Some of their components may not be high class, but they'll keep giving them to you until you're happy with it.
