My child was trying to take a picture of her geode with the webcam on my 1525 and dropped it across the front of the screen. It now has 3 rather large and deep gouges on the screen, ~2" each. I have a 3 year completecare coverage plan on the laptop and it is less than a year old. Does anyone know if Dell would consider this to be enough damage to replace the LCD? Also, would Dell either send me the replacement LCD to install myself, send a tech out or force me to exchange it with a refurb? I personally can't stand the screen as it is and will purchase a replacement screen if Dell won't replace it. I also want to keep my existing unit and would consider purchasing my own screen if Dell is intent on sending me a refurb unit.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what Dell would do for a case like this?

    Thanks

It depends on how you sell it to them. Since you paid for a tech they will send one out to you. They wont exchange the whole laptop but replace only the screen (likely with a refurb but new looking screen).

I guess one more question should be..

What can I do to ensure I don't get one of the fuzzy screens?

    Thanks

Nothing! There are tons of posts on the forum of people that have had replacements and tried to specify one specific screen or another. This is not fool proof as there are bad examples of screens coming from every vendor. A second reason is that Dell uses whatever has been shipped to them lately anyway, so the vendor you receive is somewhat luck of the draw. Best bet might be that you tell them that you absolutely will not accept a refurb.

Other best bet is that, if the screen is replaced and you are not satisfied, tell them that you want another. You can certainly make the claim that your other screen was sharper / brighter. Either way, good luck!

If your not happy with the replacement you can request another until you are satisfied.

Seeing as dell pays me 75 dollars per repair i do rather than sending a technician to do it...they must pay their techs at least that much as well.. $75*9 is a lot of loss in labor costs for them!
