Yes you should take complete care of your laptop, no matter what.

Since it helped me get a bigger discount (on my M1330 order), I got it for mine. I recently gave my M1210 laptop to my brother and within 2 days, the strap of his laptop bag unsnapped and fell to the ground, cracking the hinge and back of the cover.

Luckily, because of the complete care coverage, they fedex'd the parts to a technician and was onsite the following business day to repair it. It's as good as new now.

If that happens to my M1330 and couldn't get it fixed, I'd be totally bummed and kicking myself for not getting the complete care.

So I'd say get it unless your too tight on budget and willing to take the risk (it is a mobile computer after all...).

I don't get it. It looks like a 1720 cost $400 for complete care on a $1000 lappy??? That's spending like 40% of the purchase price for replacement insurance. This sounds like a horribly bad deal- a throw away to me, or am I missing something?

I work in IT but as part of an insurance cmpy and have been told to never buy warranties greater than 20% of the cost to buy a new system.

    Comments?

Yeah you can get it for a significant discount from the full retail price (if not free) on my 1720 I got 3year completecare with next day onsite warranty thrown in for free.

And also when you consider the average MTBF on laptops, and consider that every little accident is covered, completecare on a laptop is probably not your "standard" warranty. Dell has to consider that at the end of that 3 years you could "accidentally" drop it down the stairs and they have to give you a brand new laptop out of the deal. (and since they likely won't have that same model anymore you get an upgraded model too).

Overall completecare is definately worth it. (I also work in IT and I would never purchase a dell laptop without completecare on it, it's a total no brainer for that product. Desktops are a whole different story, as are servers. But laptops it's a no brainer).

Generally if Im spending $2,000 on something as fragile as a laptop, then yes its absolutely necessary. I had a ceiling fan in a cafe come crashing down on my last laptop computer nearly missing my girlfriend. The cafe covered the repairs and expenses, Im sure there are crazier things that happen out there.

Now sometimes Im out on construction sites with hardhats required, heavy machinery moving all over the place, and heavy materials being moved all around and overhead. It was a no brainer for me to get the coverage.

I know the situations I mentioned are all the responsibilty of others. However with complete care I dont have to haggle and wait for someone to pay up. Dell just fixes it.

I went for 2 years. If I break the laptop after two years, I'll probably be ready for a new one anyway.

3 years seemed a bit much for the price. 1 year seemed jusssst a little too short.

18 months would have been perfect, lol.

But seriously, I dont want to be paranoid about my laptop all the time.
