Not even one year after getting my Inspiron 710m I'm going to have to send it to dell for a replacement. From what I read the 710m has been discontinued so I was wondering if anyone knows what's going to happen? Is dell going to give me a used 710m? Or do they have new ones they don't sell just in case someone needs theirs replaced?

The 710m has been out for a while now, and has been replaced by the M1210. Check Dell's Outlet site to see if they still carry 710m notebooks. If not, I'm going to guess that they will either fix it with parts in storage or give you a different notebook.

    BTW, what happened to it?

Man, as much as I loved the old dell 700m... My dad had about 15 of those at work, and they almost all broke within 2 months (constantly being used for network testing and software testing, so no real off/rest time).
But man, that sucks you're having problems with it.

I swear the 700m series was cursed. I had one too...for about a week. Then the motherboard died and it went back to Dell PERMANENTLY...bad notebook, down boy :D

Oh, I was in a hurry so I didn't zip up my backpack completely so as I drove off in my motorcycle I felt my backpack got very light fast. I stopped and checked and the street was decorated with my books and, unfortunately, my laptop as well (the only time I didn't use the velcro strap to secure it). The screen is cracked so I can't see anything and I think it's the hard drive making clanking sounds so Windows XP isn't loading. I don't want a new laptop yet I don't want a refurbished one....hopefully it can be repaired instead of replaced. Thank you for the replies!

I had a 700m for a 18 months before I sold it this past July and I never had an issue with it.

The only thing I really didn't like about it was the SD slot wouldn't read any card higher than 1GB. But I think Dell finally released a driver update for it.

I loved my 700m, disliked the placement of the SD slot too, right under the PCMCIA slot.

I never had a problem with my 700M. It was a really reliable machine for me.

I did end up having it replaced last winter (about the time this post started, lol) after two years of daily rigorous use (sent it in to out of warranty support after I spilled Sprite on the keyboard--and it all went downhill from there). They sent me a base model refurbished M1210.

    HTH!

    LOL... :p.
Anyways, if it is under completecare they will send you an equivalent (or better) replacement. Who knows, you may even endup getting a M1210.

I had a Dell 700m for 1.5 years, and just sold it to upgrade to XPS 12.1 system.

With 3 years total coverage on it, after 13 months the modular DVD drive was not working properly, so they came out the next day, pushed the switch and put another one in.

A few weeks ago I had a spot on the LCD screen, maybe the gloss had worn off, nothing major. Emailed Dell with a pic asking what it was, and behold, the next day, a BRAND new LCD screen strait from the box was put on. (WOW did not expect or ask for that)

Just get total coverage with your Dell laptop for 3 years, and sit back worry free. especially with next day or same day fixing. I carry and take mine to work everyday, it is great.

Like anything and any forum, every Brand will have issues, and every model.
