My new DELL Pwr Adapter PA-3E has stopped charging my laptop battery. I am still using the original battery supplied with the laptop in 2007. I read somewhere that there is a chipset in laptop batteries that do not sometimes recognized Laptop Pwr Adapters. How can I get the chipset in my battery to recognize the adapter and start charging the battery again? I have moved from using VISTA to using Windows 7. I started using the new adapter prior to moving to Win 7. Is there a driver I can download to kick start the battery charging process? If it's not the chipset what else can the problem be? The Pwr Adapter is brand new. I would welcome suggestions from anyone.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
The newer PA-3E should work with the older 1420.
1) Does your PA-3E work properly with another laptop?
2) Does your 1420 work properly with another charger?
If (1), they your 1420 is probably hosed. It might just be that the power jack has come loose, in which case you can replace it (it's a cheap part, but a pain to replace), but it might be the signalling circuitry, which you mentioned, in which case you need to replace the motherboard (expensive part, but easier to replace).
If (2), get a new charger or try updating your BIOS. -
The PA-3E Pwr Adapter does not charge the battery on a DELL Inspiron 15R, N5110. However, the pwr adapter for the DELL Inspiron 15R, N5110 charges the battery on the DELL Inspiron 1420.
Can you guide me through "updating my BIOS? I am not very computer savy.
