I would like to have a spare to swap out with my 1520, mostly to install Ubuntu and run some security apps from time to time. Wouldn't need to be a large drive.. 80G would be fine. Just need it to be at least 5400 RPM/80G and fit the 1520 just fine. Also (I havn't tried opening it myself just yet) does anyone know if the 1520's have a tray that holds the HD, and if the part can be purchased separately from Dell?

there is just the cover that screws onto the hd, use the old hd cover for a new one

or i guess you could order it

eBay would probably be a better place to find a spare HD tray for it for cheaper than the Dell price...

Any 2.5" SATA drive should work just fine in the 1520 ;)

you can install 2 operating systems on one hard drive pretty easily. however if you have vista installed, you will have to install linux first then vista.
