Hey everyone, this post is not intended to troll, so please don't take this the wrong way. I requested a return for my 1420 today as I simply couldn't stand my screen. As I am now back to looking for a new laptop, I must ask, what other brands are comparable in price to Dell? What really attracted me to Dell was the great price for the amazing specs one could configure. I know no other manufacturer can match this, but which are in the general ballpark?

I'm looking at 14 inch screens. I know HP is in that price range. Some have mentioned Asus, but I don't know much about these. Obviously Mac, Lenovo, Sony, etc are way out of my price range. I saw a Toshiba Satellite 13 inch for only 750...does anyone have experience with these? Any input would be very appreciated.

I recommend HP. I think Dell and HP make the best budget laptops.

Macs do not compete in the same price and size range.

The 13.3" Macbook is not as performance heavy as the Dells and starts at $1100, the 15.4" MBP is not as portable or rugged and starts well above $1500.

Asus, HP, and Compal/Sager? PowerNotebooks Xoticpc.com sell them.

    Also check out Lenovo ThinkPads.

Acer, Toshiba, Compaq, etc are a little more "budget/low end"
