already bought an e1405... i probably would have seriously considered such a notebook tho.

actually, if it werent for some odd quirks about the asus models, specifically the w3j/w7j (such as Fn and CTRL being switched (is like that on most asus machines), the exhaust port on the right, etc, etc), i would have bought one. if dell can get me a decent screen on my e1405 replacement i'll be content - it does its job.

I would have definitly bought a 1510 with a 7600/X1600 instead of the 1210, but being in college, and spending so much on this thing im not going to be changing now. The next time I buy a computer it will be in about 3 years, probably Dell, probably XPS, hopefully a 15" notebook with a DX10 card, 8600 or 9600, whichever is out at the time.

I would not buy a 1510 because I want the smallest noteook possilbe, my 1210 is perfect for me and anything bigger I would not like.

If Dell comes out with one in the 14.1" WXGA+ (1440x900) resolution, dedicated middle-mainstream level GPU (MR X1600/X1650 or GF Go 7600/7700), decent battery life (at least 3 hours, hopefully with extended battery option) at the next major platform update (Santa Rosa, or as Intel now calls it, Centrino Pro), I might get one. Then again it won't happen until March '07 the earliest, probabally May/June '07 to be realistic with actual shipping units.

At the time of my purchase (early September) the ASUS A8Jm was just surfacing with specs and early sample reviews, and I needed a replacement then. If I have waited, it'd have been at least now (2 months later).

As with computer purchases, there is always something better coming around the corner so, buy when you need to. That's what I did with the XPS M1210, and I am glad I did. Moving up to a 14.1" form factor would've added at least 1.5-2lbs, and I'll lose around 1.5-2 hours of usable battery life (comparing the M1210 with the A8Jm). And with the games I play these days (which is to say not much), I don't think the step up in GPU power would've made much of a difference really.

i'll sell my m1210 if a 1410 comes out with a midrange gpu and good battery life, 9 cell as main and 6 cell in optical bay. price would have to be under 2000 though.

I'd stay with the m1210. If I had the option before I bought it, I would have gone for a 1410, but since I've owned the 1210, I see no need for a bigger screen. This thing is the far and away sweetist lappy I've owned. I'm keeping it for a few years.

I don't see a comparison in 12/14/15 inch screen sizes, regardless of GPUs, some people want the portability that only a small screen size can afford.
