I've seen a few people saying they're unhappy with the colour reproduction on their Studio, so I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread sharing the settings we're all 'happy' with after calibration (manual or otherwise)

Obviously its all perceptive so what one person likes another may not, but I think its still a valuable exercise to at least get people in the right direction.

I'll kick off with my setting configured via the 'intel GMA' application in control panel - manual adjustment

    Screen: 1440 x 900 WXGA CCFL
    Graphics: Intel 4500 (integrated)

    Backlight: 50%

    Red
    Gamma: 1.0
    Brightness: -10
    Contrast: 50

    Green
    Gamma: 1.0
    Brightness: -10
    Contrast: 50

    Blue
    Gamma: 1.0
    Brightness: 0
    Contrast: 45

I actually stole these settings from an LG thread on these forums:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=25959

    Screen: Samsung (SEC) 1920x1200 (CCFL)
    GPU: ATI Radeon 3450
    Brightness: 100% (lower looks fine)

    Red
    Gamma:1
    Brightness:0
    Contrast:100

    Green
    Gamma:1.1
    Brightness:0
    Contrast:80

    Blue
    Gamma:1
    Brightness:5
    Contrast:36

It may sound stupid to use settings from an LG thread for a Samsung panel, but I was desperate. I can't stand the defaults Dell uses and I figured Dell probably calibrates all their monitors so they look similar (as in, the corrections should be similar). I figured it was worth 2 minutes of my time to try.

I prefer the above settings over the defaults. I also have an external Dell monitor (2405FPW) that uses a Samsung panel. It was easy to find settings for (when I first got it) and, with the above settings, my laptop screen looks very close to my external screen now. At least I can't see much of a difference.

I'm still not quite satisfied though. The color profiles in the ATI control center don't seem to deal with switching to an external display very well. Every time I switch to my external display I have to go fiddle with the color settings. If anyone can give any tips in that area I'd appreciate it.

I wouldn't mind a little more brightness either, but I'm used to my external monitor which is very bright. My mouse cursor also appears to have a bluish tinge with the above settings even though I can see a drastic improvement with all other whites (all whites used to have a cold, bluish look to them).

I also found this thread while searching (which may be useful for anyone with Intel graphics):

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=240804

Would it be possible to convert the settings in that thread to ATI equivalents? If someone can post the defaults for an Intel graphics card I wouldn't mind trying.

It's probably worth mentioning that I'm not a graphics person. My biggest concern is having something that's easy on the eyes. I have no idea how accurate the above settings are for color reproduction, but I find my screen much easier to look at vs the defaults.
