I ordered a pink 1420 last week and can't wait to get it. I have heard that the paint chips off easily, has anyone who recieved their colored laptop had problems.

What color did you get, and how is the paint holding up?

I got Jet Black....it's awesome. I haven't had any problems EXCEPT that if you aren't careful when handling the lid, you can leave behind dark spots.

I don't know if it is even paint. It doesn't feel like there is paint at all. I think it might be some kind of material. But I like it very much.

I ordered a 1720 in Alpine White which doesn't seem to be a very popular choice, but from some pictures I've seen I am very satisfied with my choice, it has glossy finish unlike any of the others. But I can't really see how the paint would chip off the colored ones, it doesn't really look like paint, more of a material.

The paint chips off VERY easily. For example, I went to my local Dell kiosk with an axe and start taking a few whacks at an Inspiron 1520. The paint was coming off like you wouldn't believe.

For all of my friends with Jet Black out there:

have you tried cleaning the lid with anything to remove fingerprints?

its not bothering me too much, and I'm hesitant to just use windex and a towel on the lid, but if anyone else HAS, I'd like to know how it worked...

I don't believe the paint chips off easily. When I went to a dell kiosk, I saw the midnight blue in person. When I played around with the display lappy, it didn't seem as though the paint chips off easily. Would dell be that silly to use cheap paint? lol. maybe not( especially if they want to please customers.:D

At the Dell kiosk near where I live, it looked like someone had tried to scrape the red laptop top lid with a key. It didn't flake, but it made what looked and felt like a red metal-like thread sticking out of it. There was also a silver scratched place on the lid. Still, the paint(?) held on pretty well considering the sort of abuse that would have caused that sort of damage. No flaking.
