I just got my new e1705 with go 7800 and it seems like it is going to serve me very well but the color seems a bit off. As photographing is one of my primary uses, this is important to me. Any suggestions?

if you have any adobe photoshop/elements software installed you can always use the adobe gamma utility to adjust it that way...might work if you just download a trial version
or just try the gamma adjustment built into the nvidia control panel (at least on the 7900 gpu)...look for "adjust color desktop settings" -
ah yes I was using adobe gamma but I forgot about the individual color gamma correction. I avoided LCD for a long time for just this reason gamma changes when I change viewing distance but until they start making CRT laptops guess I will have to live with this

If you're serious about image editing then I'd highly recommend investing in something like a Spyder Pro to properly calibrate your display. Especially if you desire to print your photos accurately. Nothing is more annoying than painstakingly editing a batch of images then having the prints come back looking nothing like you intended.
A hardware solution (like the Spyder) starts at around $100, but can save you hours of frustration when working with digital images.
Just a suggestion. -
yeah I have considered that. I might bite the bullet sometime but I just bought the 1705 and I need to save money for my year in Japan so I am pretty broken right now
Most of my work is done for web display and I try to print from the same place (this allows me to match my prints pretty accurately) but I need to be in the ballpark -
Since we're on the subject....
I haven't been able to find anything wrt color profiles [.icm] for Dell's laptops [just their stand-alone monitors]
So am I looking in the wrong spot, or are they typically not available???
