Till its very dull, and you can rub your finger on it and it takes the oil out of your skin (painters trick)

As for painting the Laptop. I would use a 600 grit wet sand Piece of sandpaper. Sand it down till it is VERY smooth, but not shiny. Then take a 800 grit wetsand lightly too it (IE just a quick rubdown) Make sure all scratches and bumps are sanded down.. Buy GOOD paint. do not get Rust Olem. House of Kolor is a great paint, can be found at retailers.

So buy the color you want, and buy a primer of the same brand (or a better quality.)

After you are done sanding, spray ONE coat of primer. (a very light coat will do (you will still be able to see the color of the old paint with first coat. If not you made the coat to thick)

    Wait 20 minutes.

Spray a second coat of primer, this will be thicker than the least coat. You should now just be able to see the primer.. thats it. wait an hour and see if there is any imperfections in the coat (bumps, hairs,etc..) If so wait till the primer is dry and take the 600 grit wetsand sandpaper to it.

After that repeat the same steps with the paint as you did with the primer.

Then clearcoat it with spray LACQUER.. Latex based clear coats are usually of poor quality.

I cant go into extreme detail, so if you have any questions, just ask.
