Hey guys. Just got my e1705 today. Thing is, every time i close the lid and re open it, the screen resolution gets changed from 1920x1200 to 1024x768. Why is it doing this?

It's a video card driver issue. If you have an NVidia card in there, install the version 101.41 driver from laptopvideo2go.com. Read the instructions carefully.

Note that before you do this you will also want to change your windows update settings to let you approve what's going to be installed first, because as soon as you upgrade to this beta driver, windows is going to want to "upgrade" you right back to the basic (and buggy) 97.46 Dell NVidia driver. When you see it about to be installed, find the setting to not install it and prevent it from being shown again ("hide" it).

Hopefully the next official Dell video driver release will fix the problem.

nVidia does not release drivers directly for their notebook graphics cards, they pass them along to the manufacturers (i.e. Dell) so they can tweak them if necessary and release them. If you download from nVidia, the driver won't install on your notebook. There are a few websites like laptopvideo2go.com and tweaksrus.com that take the newest nVidia drivers and enable them for notebooks so that users can use them without having to wait for the manufacturer to get around to optimizing them for their specific machines. From my experience, a brand new driver from one of those sites often works better on my notebook than the latest official Dell one, which is a few months old. But if Dell releases a new driver for my card, I'll probably switch to that one.
