Sometimes when the fan kicks on it will click.. Until it shuts off. Sometimes it doesnt.

So how do I stop fan clicking?

Sounds to me like it's overheating. There's dirt/dust in the cpu fan causing the noise.
Clean out the heatsink and fan.

If you're under warranty, have a tech come take some of your casing apart and blow some compressed air at the fan and heatsink to clean out the dust. If not...you might want to do it yourself. Don't blow from the outside of the case into the vent though, you'll blow dust into the other parts.

This isn't necessarily the cause, but it's the first place to look.

Fan clicking? that's something I never heard before.
A fan moves very fast so you will probably hear shushes, whines,screeches,but...clicks?
Sounds like a bearing off, might need reseating.
Open up the back panel and check if there's dust or something clocking it.
Also, start the laptop and observe the eccentricity of the fan. If it's not a circular move, it's clearly off centered.

If it's noticable clicking...it may not be the fan. The fan spins at speeds high enough so that if it was tapping an edge or it was off-center, it would just sound like a constant hum. Could it possibly be the HD?

I got my new Dell XPS with 320 GB hard disc 5400 rpm, and the one that clicking is the HD not the fan. Are you sure the clicking source is from the fan?

    I don't have that HDD.

I'm sure its the fan, It clicks when it turns on, Then stops when it turns off.

I can turn my laptop upside down when its clicking.. And hear it from the vent.

    I have a XPS 1530.

I do have a clicking hardrive though... But its not bad.

like they said then, you have a warranty, use it. unless you want to void the warranty and do it yourself.

My Inspiron clicked. I don't know what it was and Dell wouldn't help. Now it is dead.
