This is very easy. First, avoid all of those "screen cleaners" and junk like that. Go to Target/Walmart/anywhere and go into the cleaning goods section. Next to the sponges and other junk you can find big microfiber wipes for a few dollars. Get something that is just a plain microfiber wipe (sometimes they are called microfiber dust wipes). When in doubt, get something with the 3M logo on it. These will not scratch anything (people use them on $1000+ pro camera lenses all the time), they are lint free, and they absorb the oils that cause fingerprints. Now just lightly wet the microfiber cloth with plain water and wipe away. Flip over and use another part of the wipe to dry. For $3 it is some of the most effective and safe cleaning you can do, toss it in a plastic baggie and it fits in any laptop bag, will never leak, and you can find water anywhere.

You can wash them in the laundry too. Just put them in the washer with other microfiber wipes and a tiny bit of detergent, rinse 2 or 3 times, and dry them without a dryer sheet. If you only have one or two wipes, its still cheap to just buy a new one every year or so.

I've just used a very slightly damp cloth on the screen when I have wiped mine off, using as little pressure as possible I wipe the screen until clean. I have also heard a 50/50 water and Isopropyl Alcohol solution and eyeglass cleaner.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60446 Apples method would probably be quite safe.

As for the black cover, maybe try a damp cloth, or a microfibre cloth.

Well basically microfiber wipes will all use the same thing as the "lint free cloth" methods, its just a better cloth to be using compared to some random cloth.

But, I mean... it's not a glossy cover... what can it be compared to?

Its like getting a fingerprint on smooth matte finish black paint. Really its the type of thing people only notice on new notebooks :p

Yes from years of first hand experience and results. Clean the cover with a damp cloth that only contains lukewarm water then dry with a clean lint free cloth, you'll be amazed at the simplicity and results you'll get.

The screen I would first use a dry lint free cloth to get rid of the dust. If you need to clean off any fingerprints etc. use a damp cloth with lukewarm water followed by a dry lint free cloth.

I have tried every specialized cleaning agent for computer screens and nothing beats good 'ol fashioned water.
