    Hey there Guys\Gals

I'm a Loooooong time browser .... New member. I just got my 1720 and would like to do a clean install of Vista. It came with Home, and I will upgrade it to Ultimate. I also, would like to add another HD, but on both these topics, there appears to be a few important unanswered questions.

    Information Gathered during a search:

    Vista Clean install :
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=157838
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=173345&highlight=Inspiron+1720

    Key Point:
    1) restart your computer
    2) when the dell screen appears press F2
    3) now you are in BIOS, go to onboard devices
    4) sata operation
    5) there you change ahci to ata

 Unresolved question: After Vista install .... If at all possible: How to set ata back to ahci ???????

    2nd HD Installation: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=176050

 Unresolved Question: What additional components are required along with a new HD cage ???????

    ******
Is there anything else I should know on the above two topics and does ne1 have answers to the unresolved questions.
    ******

Thanks Much for your Help & Cheers!

Yes once the installation is complete and you have installed Intel Matrix Storage manager, you can set it back to ACHI through the BIOS.

There also should be any additional components, other than the cage, if the laptop supports two HDs. I am not aware of this. It would simply slide in.

i dont think you need any mounting device or cage for the second HDD. you just have to slide it in like what flamenko said
