So I did I clean install of Vista on my Inspiron to get rid of all the Dell bloatware. This wasn't a restore to factory defaults, just a clean install of Vista.

Anyway, I've been getting very slow download rates with my laptop. From 200 to 300kb/s over my house's wireless to 40 kb/s over my house's wireless. I tried the internet in a campus building at my school and still the internet was painfully slow.

Another problem I now have is that whenever I put my computer into sleep mode by hitting the power button, it won't come back out. I'll hit the power button to bring it out of sleep mode and it will just turn the caps lock, power, hard drive and wifi lights on, but the screen will stay blank. The hard drive light will blink but even after waiting 5 minutes, the screen remains blank.

I've previously done one install where I restored to factory defaults (all Dell's bloatware was put back on) and had none of these problems. Any ideas what may be causing them?

I have the Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 ABG integrated wireless.

I'd be eternally grateful for any help!

Are you using the proper drivers for the 3945 card?

As far are the power button thing goes, I believe you need to set that up so vista knows what its supposed to do when that is pressed.

Above everything, make sure you've got all of your drivers ready to go prior to doing a system reinstall.

Actually I believe I figured out the screen issue. I used Laptop2Video's 165.01 drivers with the modded inf and I think I've seen people on this forum saying that they've had the same problems after using these drivers. I'm going to try 163.44 later.

I'm positive I have the right driver for my card. I got it from this portion of the Dell website.
    http://support.us.dell.com/support/...eid=R164259&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=220548

It says it supports it but I still get much lower speeds than I should be. Any ideas?

Try getting the wireless card drivers straight from Intel's site. My wife's D430 has the same card and it was the (newer) one from Intel's site that did the trick.

    Good luck.
