I need to claim on my warranty for my Dell inspiron 1525 (I'm in the UK). I've heard ppl say though that the refurbished laptop they receive can be pretty bad sometimes and in much worse condition then the ones they return.Has anyone had this kind of experience? Thanks

    Hi Luna, welcome to NBR,

Many people on here have indeed experienced the issue you mention. However, I'd like to bring to your attention the fact that Dell sells millions of units each year, and of those a certain percentage need replacing. You will no doubt read in the forums information regarding bad experiences, but what many users do not do is report when they've had good experiences. Therefore, no matter which forum you go to, you will nearly always get a biased response.

I myself have had two units replaced in the past, both without incident and neither replacement was worse than the machine I had sent back.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks for the welcome.

Yeah I suppose that's true.I was just wondering if it was worth it as the problem is the screen is a bit lose from the rest of the laptop so it doesn't stay in place well.So it's not really effecting the working of the laptop.

Also the design I have on the cover is the blossom purple design. It seems it's not in production anymore(doesn't seem to be on their site anymore),so I might get a different one.( I know this seems trivial but I absolutely love the cover of my laptop)

If they are going to replace it rather than repair it then you will almost definitely lose that cover.

What do you mean loose? Like when you open the laptop the screen slides down so you can't see all of it?

You seem a little eager for a replacement... how long've you had it? Seeing as it's not a hardware issue at all, if you've had it for a while they'll porbbaly tell you its wear and tear, as you havent reported it to them before.

And if you do manage to send it in, unless its within a certain time frame likea week or 3 weeks, not sure but, then they'll repair it, not replace the whole laptop

Yeah something like that,if u move the laptop it shakes forwards and back a bit.The plastic joints at either sideof the screen have separated at the bottom so the metal joint is visible. My main concern is it'll get worse with general use.

I was just saying replacement because that's what I've heard people say,I've never claimed on the warranty so didn't know how it worked.I don't mind a repair.I think I'd prefer it,as there's nothing else wrong with and I do love the cover.
Had it about 9 months.I just noticed it a couple of days ago.

For something like that I would imagine they'd try to repair it in all honesty. Speak to someone from Dell about it, see what they suggest.

When mine was replaced after about 6 months, they gave me a new one btw, not a refurb, I only hear the americans getting refurbs, though it's still likely you could get a refurb because there is a UK dell outlet site.

Sounds like the hinge screws may be loose. If you feel comfortable with your laptop, you can remove the control cover and under the rubber bumpers on the screen bezel are screws holding it in place. Removing the bezel and control cover exposes the screws. Easy to tighten.

The bezel is coming apart? That shouldn't happen. How old is it and would you mind posting a pic or 2 so we could better assist? I'd personally rather do simple repairs on my own laptop than send it in.

I've had my 1525 since february 2nd and the hinges are functioning perfectly, but if they do start to fail I'd be comfortable with replacing them.
Love my 1525. I kind of wanted the chill pattern, but love the blue.

Thanks nitewalker, that worked!I took out the screws and removed the screen(well not all of it but enough to get the job done),tightened the screws on the hinge and it's fine now,not moving at all.Unfortunatly I did make a tiny crack in one place but apart from that it's fine. Thanks to everyone here for the advice. :)

The replacement Dell sent me for my 9300 was a refurbished e1705 that actually looked and performed like new.

My refurbished 1555 just arrived, and it looks and feels brand new. If it weren't for the green REFURBISHED sticker on the bottom, they sure could have fooled me.

I've got some pics up in my thread, check 'em out! :)

It has taken me.... a bit over a month for my replacement... I think my computer will be new, not a refurb... It's taken so long... it better be a new one.

Well, if that's the case then good for you. ^_^ The guy I talked with said it would definitely be refurbished.
