I had choppy audio since the installation of Vista the beginning of this year. An aborted install of a wireless driver update fixed the problem for me coincidentally for several months but after installing a Dell laser printer the audio distortion is back with a vengence.I tried all the fixes such as disabling "a" band in wireless for Dell Wireless n card, disabled enhancements in sound properties, installed and uninstalled latest sigmatel sound driver and tried several wireless drivers. I am using Dell wireless n driver 5.10.38.26, Sigmatel 6.10.0.5614, Broadcom controller 460.0.0, and ATI 1400 graphics 8.360.0.0 and the audio is extremely bad. Turning off the wireless makes no difference. Any source that is played on any audio software has the same problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
An interesting finding I noticed today is that the audio is perfect when played in Media Direct which is outside of Windows on a hidden partition.I assume this means that my motherboard and sound chip is fine but there is something that the Windows environment has in it that causes the distortion.

I found a solution to my problem: Updating Sata and USB controller drivers to version 9xxxxxx fixed the audio stuttering.
