Is it necessary to get an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 card for the additional 801.22/a network capabilities? I am a student at Rutgers University. I heard that 801.22a networks are usually for major corporations only. Any advice?

Huh? Any network card supports Wireless A nowadays, and why are you asking? isn't the Intel card included in the price of the laptop?

I am assuming your university will use routers capable of providing access to a,b and g types. 802.11a has some drawbacks and therefore its not widely used.

Go with intelA/B/G thats inside the laptop already

He was probably asking because I think the Dell one comes stock in the E1405.
I looked it up the other day - apparently better range and less power consumption. -

There are alot of indians at rutgers,i go there alot.Anyways you would be fine with the default card.

A is as fast as G but doesn't have the range of B or G. I would get the 3945 just to cover your bases. It's not a big deal, people mainly use G nowadays and soon will switch to N. Either way you will probably be fine--it just depends on whether or not you like to have the capability to take advantage of everything. keep in mind that if you will be using linux it is often easier to use the dell card--easier driver support in general.
