I am trying to determine if the specs I ordered are the ones I received. I ordered the 250G 7200 RPM HD. I can see that I have 250G (well, it actually shows 220 for C: and 10 for D :), but how do I determine it is the 7200 RPM and not 5400?

I also ordered 4GB of RAM, but my computer indicates 3.5GB of RAM. What is that about?

Get something like HDTune, find the exact model number of your hard drive, plug it into Google and voila. You should easily be able to get the exact specs of your drive. You can also physically take out the drive and read the label.

You're only getting 3.5GB of memory because you have a 32bit OS.

Its probably 5.4k rpms as i dont believe a 7.2k rpm drive has been released with 250GBs yet.

They have been. In fact, they're currently back-ordered at Dell right now.

Well, I don't think they've been out for much more than a month at the most but I don't know for sure.

But the option is available on Dell's website.

Easier way to do this instead of wasting harddisk space for a useless program you'll only use once is to go to system device manager, pull out the harddrive hardware ID and/or model number and Google it.

    Full specs will be shown.

I tend to just remove the HDD from the system and take a look at the top label. These days it actually says whether it is a 7200 or 5400rpm drive on the actual label.
Much quicker and easier then installing extra programs or messing about.

This is in part the cause for my concern/question since (1) I supposedly ordered the 250G 7200 RPM, have the order slip to confirm, (2) I received my laptop earlier this week w/o any delay (ordered on 4/22 and shipped on 4/27); and (3) when you try to configure the system now, the option for the 250 7200 RPM (not the 200G) for the m1330 is not available.

So you've received the laptop and you want to double-check? I'd just do what's already been suggested - pull the HD out, look at the label, put it back in to the system. If it isn't 7200RPM, call Dell and raise Cain.

As to the option not being available, it's entirely possible they took down the option until they get them in stock again. We'll see what happens with my order.
