Just an FYI.
I recently bought an E1505 with the standard 1-year, mail-in warranty in September. Then, I just received an offer (via mail) to extend the warranty to 4-year, at-home service for $154. I noticed that this price is much cheaper than the price I would have had to pay if I had gotten this warranty (or even the 3-year warranty) at the time of the computer purchase.
This is my first Dell laptop purchase (that I've kept). So, I don't know whether everyone gets this offer after a purchase. If so, it may be worthwhile to purchase the extended warranty after the computer purchase.

THat's good deal for 4 year service, if u have any problem with ur e1505 , you'll be able to get a replacement with newer laptops in future. SOme people owns a 9300 and they got a 9400 for replacement with better configs.

I don't remember what the price was but i always get a letter from Dell offering to extend the warranty for me after purchasing a laptop. I remember i ordered four Dell E1505's in July and got one for each in the mail.
-
I got a 3 year with accidental warrenty so that basically no matter what happens i will still have my laptop for the next 3 years
-
i got warrenty for 3 years too, but only complete cover in the first year. i have no idea how it works......
if i broke my lappy let say, one month before the complete cover experies, can i really get a new one!??! ....... Dell cant be that stupid tho....???
confused?!?!?! anyone got any idea?!?! point me to places i can read??? -
If you paid for the computer with a credit card, you may already have an extended warranty. Some credit card companies extend the manufacturer's warranty by 6 months or a year if you buy the notebook with a credit card.

so what is the general recommendation on extended warranties around here anyway?
generally from what i've read, if something is going to go wrong due to a manufacturing defect it WILL go bad sometime in the first 60-90 days. obviously the point behind extended hardware warranties is to cover "normal wear and tear" that may cause failures down the line. when i ordered my e1405, the best price/value (length of time) was the 2 year option. i frankly dont care about the in-home stuff, but am considering returning the warranty altogether anyway and sticking with the standard 1 year because if by some unfortunate happening the motherboard or something fails a year and a half/two years from now, i'll just order a new machine... it is after all a (relatively) inexpensive consumer notebook. i also have had an inspiron 8500 for over 3 and a half years that never had a single issue... and of course it was fully covered under warranty the whole time D:
anyway, i just wanted to get some feedback on what i've been debating to see what you all think
i'm very interested in this "better warranty deal in the mail" thing - any idea as to how i can get it after the fact? how do you go about ordering the warranty through those mailers? special phone #? coupon code? also, after my first year with the standard warranty, will i be given an option at that time to increase it? -
In order to accept the offer, one had to call a special number and give the rep a reference code that was in the letter. -
i got a much better offer after the sale as well, and it was $200 for 2 more years, so 3 total years.
-
I got a call a few weeks after my laptop arrived and paid $92 to extend to a 3year mail in.

same here as hiker

just to add another experience to the pot, i too received a letter for each of the e1405's my family ordered offering us 4 year in home service for $154 after rebate + tax (was something close to twice that when we were configuring the notebooks). FYI we choose the standard 1 year mail in @ the time of purchase.
Cheaper to buy extended warranty after computer purchase?
