my d620 has dropped of the bed and landed on its port basically with the cord in which meant i have to wiggle the cord on the port edge around to keep it on, so i knew the ports solder points had possibly cracked loose so i stripped the machine and wedged it with tiny cut bits of plastic to wedge it down to the board hard and its worked for some time perfectly ....

but it slid of the bed again the other day and found myself having to turn the connector around and pull it up the way to lever the port down to the motherboard but now its not charging the battery atall now im going to have another go at doing the repair and maybe solder the connections this time depending how close it is as i dont want no shorty sparply fireworks when i turn it on

my main battery would easily hold over 2.5 to 3 hours using rmclock so the battery should be fine i also have the modular battery which i tried it alone and it wouldnt charge that while vista indicates running on AC but not charging

iv had the wrong type of charger sign come up a couple of times too i think i may do a bios update even though there is no newer ones so it wipes over and hopefully knocks off any charging system error flags

if anyones got any other ideas fire away , oh iv also tried other chargers too as i have 2 dells a d400 and this d620 so it sure seems to be the port/port solder points to the motherboard

im only holding out till that new asus 15" notebook comes out with twin drive bays for some raid ssd action , or any laptop thats got the modular bay or holds two drives tv tuner decent gfx card and support for a quadcore esata and hdmi ...... i dont ask for much do i lol

any suggestions with my wee problem would be appreciated

if the bios update dont work i will take some pics of my repair and post in here beware i only have a n95 phone as iv not got the ideal cam i want yet but should do the job !

    cheers

You could always pick up a new motherboard from ebay or something.
