I have a CPx Latitude and purchased it from Dell and was a refurb. I didn't receive a manual so I have a quick question for anyone that could help.

Just purchased a new charged battery from a buddy and the laptop works perfectly except when I plug in the charger, the small green light on the charger now blinks and wont charge the battery. Any suggestions please. Many thanks...

you mean a charger that plugs into the wall and the battery plugs into it? as opposed to just putting the battery in the laptop and plugging the laptop's a/c cord into the wall?

anyways, i thot blinking green meant it was at capacity?

edit: whoops, i mean blinking green = charging and steady green = at capacity

Thanks for you reply. The charger plugs into the wall and into the laptop where the battery is. Without the charger pluged in, the laptop works fine on battery only.

When I plug in the charger into the laptop, the green light goes off then starts blinking. The battery had been used for few hours so wouldn't be charged at that time. When left pluged in and blinking, it doesn't charge the battery.

I cant see it being a faulty battery as this battery worked perfecly in my buddys Latitude C-500 and I have a CPx Series and wondering if there is a difference.

Any suggestions please anyone, many thanks...

    1. how do you know it's not charging?

    2. i assume that if it fits into your rig, it should be ok, but maybe you could take a look at the leads on the battery and see if they line up correctly

    3. you might shoot an email to dell or call with a part # on the battery and see if it's compatible

It didn't charge when pluged in overnight and it works off the battery perfectly so I have to assume the connections arn't dirty........

Yes, the old battery charged fine and the problem only started after the original battery died and the orange light on laptop indicating battery low while pluged into charger. Thought ...time for new battery...

My concern right now is that the original battery failure while being pluged into the charger could have caused damage to the laptop.

Right now, if my buddy charges this new battery in his laptop, it will work on mine for nearly 4 hours. But the minute I plug the charger in, the solid green light just starts blinking and I dont get any charge.

The only difference between to two batterys is the original was a 3300 mAh and this new one is a 4400mAh.

Do you have any thoughts on this or a dell support email address that would respond quickly to this question. I have tried to send a question to dell tech support through their web site but the TAG suggests the last owner of this laptop was a business and the link I was on only seem to respond to customers of home computers so it just kicked the message.

    Many thanks for your input....

If anyone has any suggestions to my delema, I would really appreciate hearing from you, Thanks...

Can a Latitude CPx be powered from a charger without a battery present similar to the Latitude C-500 Series can?
