I have a Dell Inspiron 1318 laptop. Last week the charger (AC/DC adapter, the one that came with it) stopped working. The light would not come on the power box attached to the cord despite being plugged in to the electricity and laptop. A few days ago, I bought a new charger online that supposedly works for my model. It worked fine for two days despite looking slightly different than the old one (the metal end that attaches into the laptop is rounded instead of hexagonal). But now this charger isn't charging my laptop either. The odd thing is that the light is still on, on the power box for the charger, but the laptop is not receiving anything from it for some reason. I have tried wiggling and moving the cord in the laptop's connection every way possible, and it came on once for a brief while, but now it won't again.

I'm almost certain it's not the battery, I have not had any problems with the length of time it stays charged while not plugged in, and it's even at 29% right now. I think the connection on the side of the laptop is more likely the issue, but I'm not sure if that can be fixed, or how much it would cost.. I am supposed to have a lifetime warranty on the laptop, but I assume if I were to send it in to Dell it would take quite a while for them to fix it and send it back, which is a bit of a problem. Anyway, if anyone could help in some way it'd be much appreciated.

You need to not use the after market if it is different in any way, it could fry your laptop if it is poor quality.

You need to buy a Dell power adapter not after market.

Ebay does have them, Dell has been 19v for years but they must be regulated well.

if the insertion site for the charger is loose this is a problem, it is part of the motherboard and Dell replaces these when this happens, its very expensive if that is the case sorry.

    Good Luck
