Wondering what the easiest way would be to go about changing the Dell Media Direct button to something more worthwhile. I really want to just be able to open up Winamp with the damn button, not Dell's less than good program. Thanks.

i think he's asking about the actual mediadirect key (looks like a house), not the media buttons.

I havn't heard of anything yer, but i'm sure there must be some windows keymapping software to run as a service that lets you remap keys. I had heard of one for XP, but never tried it and forgot the name. Good luck, and if you find a solution, please post

Alright, if I find anything I'll be sure to post it here. I have already managed to use the other media buttons with Winamp, through the use of a plugin. Hopefully, something will pop up to allow me to use this frigging button. Thanks for the posts.

Dont need a plug in to get the media buttons to work, atleast noy on mine, in Winamp Option / preferences / Global Hotkey, there is a option to enable them.

But i would love to hear if anyone finds a way to remap the Media Direct key in Vista.

here is my experience... i had to reformat the media direct partition to get it to stop running, though. you will need to use a different command to run winamp (in this example i open google.com in my default browser), but this might help...

another cool thing is that if you reformat the media direct partition, the media direct key turns into a power key when the computer is off as well. at least, it did for me. let me know how you get on!

feel free to message me if you need help. i think you will be pretty stoked about this!

Somehow my MediaDirect button stopped launching MediaDirect inside Vista Ultimate. Then I found the way to use autoit to change the MD button function. Finally, I use the compiled file MCHK.exe posted on #11 of this forum to launch Window Media Center instead. Very simple. Just put that file in the Startup folder. Afterall, WMC is far better than MD inside Windows. It will search my network media jukebox and stream play all my media files directly.
