    Hey all

I have a 1.4gHz Pentium M processor with a 1MB cache(pre dothan) that works fine.........but I have added some games and programs that take a bit more processing power. What I would like to know is if I change to a 1.6 or 1.7 Ghz non dothan processor, would that give me a significant change in my computing experience. Also, I know the new D600s have the option to put a 1.8 ghz Dothan ( with the 2mb Cache) in them. Could I upgrade to the dothan if my system is non dothan???

    thanks in advance

    D600

    1.8Ghz PM Dothan
    1gb ddr
    60gb 7200 rpm
    32mb ati
    802.11b/g

Can you find a dothan chip? I had another guy on another forum that was going to attempt it but never got back to me. I wanted to upgrade a tecra 1.4ghz PM 1mb cache(banais). I can get a 1.7 PM banais chip it but it's not worth it.

You would only see a minimal increase by moving up to 1.6 ghz, and a slightly higher increase for 1.7 ghz. Personally, I don't think it's worth it. However, going to the Dothan chip might be something to consider.

I know with the 8600, a BIOS came out that supports the new Dothan chips. I would check the BIOS updates for the D600 (I would think it would support the dothan chips)

    Thanks all!!!

Dothans are just a bit tooo pricy right now......maybe in a few years and i know the new D600's support them........but you have to flash a new bios and I dont know if i really wanna do that......
