Got a 15,4" running in max (and optimal) 1680x1050 resolution as a standard. But when running games in lower resolutions, I get a warning message that I'm not supposed to change. But how can I avoid that when 1680x1050-alternative not is present in the game configuration!?

And even worse - when running a game in another resolution, the computer crashes when the screen saver is activated...

Got an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 with latest drivers from Dell support, dated in late last year. (tried to install drivers direct from ATI but computer refused to accept them).

    Try downloading drivers from:

    www.omegacorner.com

These use the latest ATI drivers but makes them compatible with laptops. I use them on my ATI Mobility 9000, and they've been pretty stable.

Keep in mind these aren't "official drivers" but I haven't had any problems with them.

    See if that helps.

Also, you should be able to change your resolution in Windows...I'm not sure why it's giving you that error.

I can change the resolution to whatever I want. But I get a warning message that says that I'm leaving the optimal settings for my screentype, which is 1680x1050.

What you're saying is that the options within the game do not support your resolution and you get that error when you try the next one down in your aspect ratio? Seems like a problem with the game to me...although you shouldn't be crashing when the SS kicks in. I'd check Dell Support for updated drivers for your machine and see if that helps.

I've always hated screen savers, though I guess with a laptop they may be necessary.
I've just found that they waste memory, are typically unstable, and I get bored with them way too fast.
I just turn off my monitor. Same effects, less waste.
