    Hello everybody :)
I have a question about my 1520's VGA. I have 8600M GT with DDR2 memory and I think about changing it to 8600M GT with DDR3 memory, for example with that from XPS M1530.
And my question is: is it possible?? Or are there som big differences between these two cards??
And if it's possible, where I can buy 8600M GT with DDR3?? I tried looking on eBay, but there was just the DDR2 one and it was from (or for) some Asus notebook, so I don't know if it can fit into my Inspiron.

I know that there must be a question like this, but now I'm online only on my mobile and I don't want to spend so much money by searching here on forums. So if there is thread like this, please give me link to this thread.

    Thanks a lot!! :)

Is there a reason why it's impossible?

And if there is a chance in hell, even the slimmest chance of it happening, it'd be cool to explain how.

I think its something to do with the motherboard which makes it impossible.
Your RAM is probably DDR2 too

But is it because some physical dimensions or why?? Is DDR3 card so much different than DDR2 one??

I'm not the OP, but I hadn't realized the RAM and GPU needed the same DDR(1-3)... though it seems obvious enough... haha

Because the gpu's are on-board the motherboard including the 1530's.

Dont listen to ANY of these guys. You don't need the same system RAM as GPU memory. They are completely independant of each other. Also the GPUs are both removable cards and NOT integrated to the motherboard. It is possible 100%

I actually agree because in the vostro manual which is the same as the inspirons, it states that the video card is completely separate and if needed can be replaced (if broken)

    ok: it is not possible.
Inspiron 1520 has its video card as a separate module, but the XPS 1530's video card is intergrated into the motherboard.

    XPS 1530 Service Manual: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsM1530/en/SM/cpucool.htm#wp1084976

-- there's areason why there are 3 chips. One is the north bridge (IF THE SYSTEM had a X3100, then there would be 2 chips - the video chip would be in the northbridge), one is the 8600GT, and one is the processor. - the southbridge under the palmrest / touchpad:

    http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsM1530/en/SM/sysboard.htm#wp1000473

    The Inspiron 1520: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1520/en/sm/graphics.htm#wp1179839

    the video card is separate

    So....it's impossible.

DDR3 isn't coming to Inspiron or Vostro line, the logic is simple: if you are Dell and you have XPS as your gaming line, you wouldn't want your home entertainment and small business lines to steal the potential sells. Even if Dell decides to release a module GDDR3 8600m for the Vostro/inspiron; you would not see it until the next gen of XPS laptop arrives.
