OK, I've asked this here ( and elsewhere) before, but from time to time, I drop a thread about it hoping someone with an answer will catch it.

Last year my Samsung WUXGA on my I9200 crapped out on me, and Dell was not recognizing the problem at the time. I had no choice but to buy a replacement, but Dell wanted 25% more than anywhere else, and they most likely would send me exactly the same model screen... -which would crap out exactly in one more year.**
    No thanks.

I bought a Sharp WUXGA, but my 9200 didn't like it. I could "make" it work ( -as in "force" it to work) by booting to the Samsung, removing the Samsung once I saw an image, and installing the Sharp.
    Hmmm.

Sent the Sharp back and got a Philip's. It worked. - Sort of. My QuickSet didn't (- and still doesn't) like it, and would shut down as soon as it tried to start. I have no Fn keys, and can't control screen brightness, even with the BIOS. When setting the Power Options to shut down the screen after X minutes, the screen image does disappear, but the back light stays on.

Ran the Dell Diagnostics test, and the inverter doesn't pass the smell test.
Threw the old Samsung in ( with it's original inverter), and THAT inverter didn't pass the smell test.
    So far I've tried;
a brand new Samsung WUXGA with new inverter,
    a brand new LCD cable,
    reverting to the old BIOS,
reinstalling the new BIOS ( there are only two for the I9200),
unistalling & CCleaning QuickSet, and reinstalling QuickSet, -several versions, several times,
    screaming at the laptop.

The laptop has an ATI 9700 M 128 MB driven with Omega drivers. I have tried uninstalling them and reinstalling the stock ATI drivers.

QuickSet controls most of the Fn keys, which sux, and it refuses to stay running. I think it's because it doesn't like the same thing that the Dell Diagnostic tester doesn't like... something related to the inverter, even though the picture quality on the LCD is fantastic.
I like it. Why can't they?

Anyway, thanks for reading, and any info is appreciated.

**BTW, Dell finally did make good by recognizing their screen issues, and with the help of a Dell Consumer Advocate, I finally got a replacement sent to me just recently, which I will dump into another 9200 I'm building for my wife.
-It's a Samsung WUXGA, exactly like my original.
