It's in my sig.
To save lots of money, I went with 2.0Ghz instead of 2.2.... Is there a big difference?
I also changed the drive to 5400... Since I don't do 'Drive intensive' tasks...
Saved almost 400 bucks, I don't want to get RAM from someone else, the cheapest I could find is Corsair 2x2GB for 400... That's like 140 bucks cheaper than going with DELL but I've never added RAM into a notebook, so I don't want to try...
Now, will boot times be slow with a 5400 drive? Will the CPU performance be a lot different?
I usually just do very light photoshop, browsing, and I play games like counter strike and some other steam games...Which all run perfectly on my ultra cool 1.8Ghz C2D 512MB of RAM... I wonder how 4GB will be like... =\

Not to make you feel worse but...

Installing RAM is easy. Even for a first timer. If you have every successfully constructed a Lego kit then you are over qualified to install RAM.
So that would be almost $300 cheaper than doing it through Dell. You could afford to put the better processor or hard drive on there with those savings.

Wait...I just went to Dell's website and they want to charge $850 to upgrade to 4MB.

Oh I'm in Australia
4GB RAM here is 380 bucks at least
And the CPU's on dell AU aren't that expensive.
Know anything about the HDD etc?
I saw that How to thread over here, It looks really easy but I'd rather pay the extra 140 to get it from Dell... I'd have to sell the 2x1GB that's in there anyway. -

My advice is to call Dell when you order from them. Get them to stick in 1x2GB stick for you, they may charge you up to $50 for that. Then grab another aftermarket 2GB stick, check www.staticice.com.au for the best prices, and slot that in.
A few screws later, you've doubled your ram for perhaps an extra $200. -
Hmmm
OK thanks guys.
I might call and get 1x2Gb... Didn't know they can do that for me.
Thanks for the link Lysander... I'll check staticice now.
Thanks guys for the help. -
Dude, the guy's in Australia. Stop showing him US stores and US prices.
It's my pet peeve as I'm in Canada and too many people shove American stores at me. -
Can you really have dell put in a 1x 2gb stick in?
-
-
It's in his signature that he paid AUD, and he also mentions how the CPU's on dell AU aren't that expensive
-
Or wait it still would be a rape session considering they'd charge you for the 2gb which $150 upgrade and then an additional $50 to make it a 2gb stick.
A 2x2gb kit is just around $200.
Changed my order yet again!
