I placed an order on 5/11/2009 for a dell xps m1730. I've been tracking the orders progress on both the website and via the order status 800#. I know the website dosent give the best status so i've also been using the 800 line as i stated.

Well the 800 lines status started out as "your order is being processed" then switched to "your order is in production and is being built" now is back to "your order is being processed". In this the EDD has changed from 5/27/2009 to 5/20/2009 back to 5/27/2009.

Is this normal? I've called the 800 line again and spoke to a rep and they said that processed and being built are the same thing. Is that correct?

I'm a very anxious person and like to know exactly where things stand. So if someone could clarify or explain i would appreciate it very much!

    thanks

What's probably happened is that one of the components in your configuration has turned up out of stock, and they're waiting on replacements to come in. That's why it was "In Production" and now it's not. It could be the first estimate was made assuming the parts would be available, but there was a delay for whatever reason. I've had it happen with the Dell store before, but with accessories and not a system. The ordered item (a Dicota computer bag) was OOS and they had an estimated delivery date from Dicota, but it didn't happen - it was delayed a month. So Dell passed it on to me.

Generally they don't fully charge you until it's completed, but each company is different.

It happens every so often, but that's how Supply and Demand works.
