Hi guys and girls. I just bought a 4gb dual channel kit for my 1330. I saw that some kits had cas latency of 4 and five. I did some research and found that the lower latency the better. Is this true and how big is the difference between the two? Thanks!

Lower (cas) latencies are better, but usually are also lower clocked. For example, 667 RAM usually has a CAS 5, while 533 has CAS 4.
-
Yup... And DDR2-667 with CAS 4 is quite rare.

Wow! I guess I got a good deal then. I got a DDR2-667 4gb dual channel kit with cas 4 latency for $79.99 at Newegg.

It's a good idea to buy high speed DDR2 and install to a lower platform. For example, i put a pair of DDR2-667 (5-5-5-15) to my dad's old vaio which can only run DDR2 @ 533 and i got 4-4-4-10 latency. It's faster than normal DDR2-533 with standard 5-5-5-15.. !

CAS latency is the number of clock cycles that have to pass before the CPU and RAM can start exchanging data - it's a one time delay, once the data is moving its moving. The way to think of it is like turning on a tap - CAS is the time it takes to turn on the tap. Once the tap is running it is no longer of any importance.
