Care to help me understand the dell build proccess?

I know it takes a few days to build and ship, but I was wondering for the people who recently received their glorious majestic new computers. How many days did it take for it to go from in production, building, to testing, to boxing, to shipped? I ordered on 7/8/07 and my EST shipping date is 7/30/07, does it really take 22 days to make a computer?

 

I was wondering the same thing, I ordered on 7/4 and it's still in the build stage.

 

When do they actually charge your account?

 

So now three of us want to know, and none of us have an answer... swell

 

usually in my past experiences with dell, they ship earlier than the est shipping date by around 3-5 days some times more some times less.

 

Consider yourselves lucky w/ your shipping times . My ETA is 7/22 but I ordered way early on 6/27. Its been in the testing phase since Thursday.. grr..

Even so, I'd still say Dell USUALLY ships up to about a week in advance.

I ordered on the 29th with an est. shipping date of 7/19. It's been in the build phase almost since I ordered. At this rate I seriously doubt they'll ship it a week in advance... kinda pissed. I wonder if ordering through the EPP had anything to do with it.

Two things to remember in this situation though. First, dell has many parts on backorder, this is because the response to the new inspirons was much bigger than expected. Also, it isn't the time to build your computer, but the time it takes to build everyone else's computer that ordered before you. Although dell usually beats their estimate by ~1 week, i wouldn't count on it this time.

 

Whats the avergae In Production > Build time?

I ordered late Saturday night (7/7) and mine is already in the boxing stage today.

 

this isnt really an answerable question. like some others have said, they usually beat their conservative "est ship date", no one will know for sure until the dates come, and go.

i have never had to wait till the ESD.

 

Yup, I understand fully. Doesn't reduce my frustration with regards to the numerous orders I've seen on here that have progressed farther than mine though ordered later. If mine hasn't shipped by Thursday I will cancel on Friday and cave in on a MBP.

 

I ordered Friday night 7/6 and it was boxed just after noon yesterday 7/9. Based on what I know about how things work I'm thinking it will ship to me toorrow or Thursday and be in my hands Tuesday - Wednesday.

 

when they say its in the boxing stage, does that mean its in malaysia boxed? or in the states boxed?

 

I know how you feel, i ordered mine 6/26. I called the automated system to see my order status on Thursday, it was in the build stage.Today I checked again and it is still in the build stage. while a few people have already recieved theirs.

I believe it includes both, boxed in Malaysia to ship to Tennessee, then boxed in Tennessee to await shipping.

 

Boxing stage is the period from the time in which the laptop leaves the factory in Malaysia to the very second in which it boards the delivery truck leaving for your house from TN. This entire process takes 2-3 days.

 

My 1720 was ordered on 6/30, was in testing stage 7/6, boxing 7/7,shipped 7/9, and will be delivered on 7/11.

 

Ordered 7/7 boxing 7/9 ... I hope the Dell gods are smiling upon me...

i ordered my 1420 on 6/29 and it said the estimated ship date was 1/24. It was in building stage yesterday, testing stage this morning, and is in the boxing stage now. Hopefully i get it next week sometime!!!

 

Ordered my 1520 6/28. When they told me ESD was 7/18 I freaked out.
Entered Boxing 7/9 at Noonish (When I called in the morning it was in testing xP)

Hoping it ships by Thursday w/ one day delivery so I can get it on time for my trip =X

 

I ordered my 1520 on 6/28 and the estimated shipping date was 7/18. It was in boxing from 7/5-7/6, then sent on 7/9. And I get my laptop tomorrow (almost today for us easterners). I also did 2-day shipping, so DHL is on-time right now.

 

What screen did you get?

I feel for you too. I'm basically in the same boat. Ordered 6/27 and its still in production... bah.

 

what stage of production, because my 1420 has all the same specs as you (which i ordered 6/29 two days later than you) and it is in boxing, meaning it will be shipped in a few days

 

Oh wow.. I just called again to check up and it also JUST got moved into the boxing stage. When I checked earlier it was still In testing.. as it had been since Thursday :\. Well I guess thats a good sign. The number is 1800-433-9014 for anyone who didn't see it on the other thread to check your specific stage (more accurate than online)

Now I gotta wonder... does anyone think ANY of the new inspirons will ship from their factory in austin?

If you ordered the 1520, it was built in Malaysia, and will be shipped through Nasville.

 

i ordered the 1420.

 

I'm pretty sure it's the same deal for the 1420, 1520, and 1720.

 

I just got my 1520 even though the estimate arrive date is august 2nd. Basically, they shipped mine 20 days early

 

I ordered 6th of July
It shipped today 11th of July
The estimated delivery I got is 19th of July. I hope I get it earlier, I'm sure I will since it's in NZ right now.

 

So it can come anywhere from a week after you ordered it to your shipping date? Swell... I guess I go with out for a while longer :cry:

 

wow that's the same as me, except mine hasn't shipped yet =(. i ordered 7/6, estimated ship date is 7/19. i just called and its still in the build stage. mine is a 1420 btw... which one was yours.

 

It seems that the 1420s are shipping out slower than the 1520s
