What's going on here. I run the file, the InstallShield Wizard opens, I click next, it says it's reading files, and then I get this error message.

Can anyone help me out?

In your screen shot it says its for a different laptop than the vostro 1400. Did you download the wrong laptop's bios on accident?

Oh. So that's what that meant. Maybe I did.

I'll try again. I was just following a link from a page on updating BIOS to A07...I didn't look to see which comp it was for....

Yeah, it protects you from installing the wrong bios and bricking your motherboard. It happened to me once too :)

The past week I've had 2 bios upgrades destroy the motherboard of my XPS M1730. The last motherboard is being replaced monday.

I recommend NOT upgrading the BIOS unless you specifically need a feature of that revision :(

Completely agree...i've never had a BIOS update failure but don't try to fix something if it isn't broken

Thanks for telling me now! :p

I was pretty sweaty-handed during the process, but it worked; A07 was the version I had before I had to reinstall several times, so I wanted to get back to it from A03.

If you don't need any new features, it's probably fine. If I were you, I'd want to.
