I just cancelled my order because I spent over 4 hours waiting and talking (mostly waiting to talk) to customer service about why my order number was showing *no such order* anymore and what my status was, not only did they give me numerous status reports they gave me numerous ship/arrival dates all the way up to the end of september and possibly october. Now I'm sad and debating whether I should try re-ordering but modifying some things...what do you guys think? Try Dell again or go somewhere else for a laptop (if so what are some suggestions)? :(

If they treat you like crap the first time, chances are, they won't treat you like crap the second time. Why? Usually they don't make the same error twice ("they" refers to any such big corporations).

I've had numerous problems with various products over the past decade or so, and if the first time the problem isn't solved, the second time the problem usually is solved (assuming you start from scratch--not picking up the tail of in-progress matter).

That said, I don't think you're going to find any other laptop that offers the same bang for the buck as the Dell's, nor will you find another brand that will offer you as many headaches :D.

It's really up to you. Do you need value for the buck, or a bit more pricey but more reliable? I'd definitely suggest you look at some HP models, they're both stylish and practical. I've owned a Thinkpad (got stolen), Compaq, HP, and soon a Dell, and from the 3 notebooks I've owned, the HP is definitely the best out of the pack. I'm not sure if my Vostro 1500 can topple that.

Yeah I'm looking at HP's right now, they seem pretty nice, not as customizable as Dell but nice. Hmmm...maybe I should give them another shot before ordering an HP, ahah I hate being such a wishful thinker. How fast did HP deliver your order Triple_Dude?

Go fo DELL again! DELL ****s over HP. This time, tell them before hand that you expect freebies, like the whole warranty shebang and CompleteCare etc.

The HP was second hand, and I didn't know HP did built-to order systems like Dell ?
Hmm, I request a freebie the first time I ordered, and all I got was a 50 dollar Balkin Notebook bag... which I'm quite satisfied with--but if you really really push, you can get a lot more. In fact, you can even get parts thrown in for FREE!

eugenics, this is the frst time dell is expieriencing this kinsd of delay.i am not on their side, but when they get used to this, theyll ship faster.dell makes these products worth waiting for, and they are awesome reliability.i bought four dell computers.2 desktops, 2l laptops.when i bought those laptops, to the day they got to me, was only 5 days.also, my oldest desktop, whickh is still working, is one i bought in 1999, and it works perfectly.

You don't want to go back, not for a couple months at least. There are plenty of good retailers out there where you can get some good rigs. I went to Xoticpc.com for mine. Quality machines and great customer service.

HP is customizable.... :) you can even do it through the Costco website if you are a Costco member!

It still didn't seem as good as the inspiron, so I stuck with dell.

Sorry MissNora, I know this whole thing really sucks!

I don't believe HP has customizable models in Canada. At least HP.ca's site doesn't and I just checked Costco.ca and they only had pre-configured models as well.

    Yes, exactly.

I guess built-to-order HP notebooks is only available for US Residents. Oh well.

I gave in again, I'm a huge push-over when it comes to changing my mind about what I want...except somehow the Inspiron I customized this time is more expensive even though it has a slower processor, godamn. Whatever...
