FYI, I just had a hell of a time trying to cancel my order for an XPS M1330. Customer care told me that it couldn't be done, and the manager pretty much called me a liar and hung up when I said it could. Customer care my . Anyway, I spoke with a nice guy in XPS sales and he told me to call the Cancellation Department at 1-800-247-2076, option 2 to cancel. Called them up and they canceled the order in about 2 minutes. I just wanted to post this to help other in case they suffer the same treatment when trying to cancel!

Oh, and I decided to buy a Samsung X460 instead :)

Ahhh..to bad you went thru that....Well, the outcome was good.
And, yes that is a good number... ;)

You could send a complaint about the Rep that handled you that way, if you wanted. I would..So Dell knows that their Reps are *simply not the best*, in providing good CS :D

Grat's on your new impending Samsung X460 (they are sleek and sexy lappy's) :D

Nope. Looks like these guys have been told not to cancel "in production" orders. Been calling all day and they refuse to cancel order that has been in production for 1 day

That's wrong...so wrong..YOU have that right to cancel up until your lappy is about to enter the shipping stage... :(

You need to call and speak with a Resolutions Specialist or, fill out an Unresolved Issues Form. That's such BS!!! sorry...that kind of poor CS..torks me....

Here is the Unresolved Issues form

    Dell.

Please keep me/us all advised on how things are working for you.

Even I canceled the Studio 15 laptop using the number 877-868-3355. He told that I will be getting a mail and I need to confirm within 24hrs. Not yet got though.

I waited for this laptop for 20days and they just postponed by estimated delivery date. Got fed up with the problem that people were facing in this Studio laptop and finally canceled it.

One question, when will the status in the Website gets updated after telling them to cancel it?

You should receive a confirmation that it's canceled, it should show up on the site that it's been canceled.

What is the latest..it's been a few days.. ;)

This process seems to have become more difficult. I am attempting to cancel a laptop order I placed last night that already switched to "in production" this morning, so far to no avail.

    EDIT: Success!

I originally called the Cancellation Department # twice and spoke with two different reps. Both told me that even though the order was placed last night, the fact that it is already "in production" means that it can no longer be cancelled.

On my third call, I asked to be connected to a supervisor. I was put on hold for about 5 minutes, after which the rep came back and said he spoke with his manager, who told him that they could submit a cancellation request to the factory. If the request was granted, I would see an update on my order status page within 4 hours, or I could call back in 4 hours to check (he gave me a case #). I just checked online (it's been less than an hour) and it's already showing as cancelled.

So...it seems they've become a bit more strict with this policy, but you can still do it.
