I have a huge dilemma. I have ordered a E1505 for 1,100 with the following specs:
Core2Duo 7200 2.0Ghz
1 gb ram
160gb hd
SXGA+ Screen
Intel Next Gen N Wireless
X1400 Hypermemory
I can get all of this at $500 off.
My price point is anywhere below 1,200. I am wondering whether I should wait for the E1520 hoping that the price will come out to be reasonable in my limit, or should I just stick with the E1505 I just ordered? The main reason why I am considering is primarily for the 8600M GT card that is very attractive to me.
-
What are you planning to do with it? Gaming or normal computing? If it is more towards gaming then better wait. cos X1400 is almost out of date now.
-
if i were you id wait for the 1520
-
My problem is price. If the price shoots up way over, I won't be able to get it. It is mainly for college, but I want to have the capability for gaming for games such as Command and Conquer 3.
-
For college work and C&C3 the current E1505 is good enough. But if you are planning to play newer games, then X1400 would not give you satisfying results.
I personally dont think DELL will stop selling E1505 from the day they introduce E1520. For example Latitude D630 (santa rosa) notebook is already out, but D620 is also still available. So Id say youd at least get a window of few days. In the worst case scenario you can always resort to DELL outlet. Seems like a risk worth taking. -
I would just get the 1505 if its for limited gaming and college -
-
Ok I'll bite, How do you do this? -
from what have heard so far, the 1520 will be 10x sexier than the 1505. the build will probably be better, better plastics, possibly a media remote, and updated gpu (8400m). i'd wait for the 1520.

-
WHERE HAVE YOU HEARD ALL OF THIS!!!!! ahhhhh!!!! ME WANT ME WANT ME WANT!!!!
-
-
... that makes me want to see it more!!!! or even just read about it!!!! AHHHHH
i hope u know, that it is because of you that i will not rest until i see it or read about it...
lol
Cheers! -
8400M GS sounds more like it. I highly doubt they would include the 8600M GT in it. The problem is the costwise. Will I be able to get say this configuration:
Intel 7300 2.0ghz
160GB HD
1GB Ram
Wireless N
8400M GS or GT
All this for less than 1200? Currently the E1505 can have:
Intel 7200 2.0ghz
160GB HD
1GB Ram
Wireless N
X1400 Hypermemory
for about 1010. Will the new Inspiron be the same price or cheaper? Will there be $250 discounts? -
-
does anybody know if the 1505 can handle the new granada espada game, sword of the new worlds?
-
1) My most greatest concern is the new GFX card 8600GT or the 8400GT.
2) Santa Rosa Processor 7300 that is also at 4MB L2 cache
Its not bragging rights, but the fact that if the graphics really do come with a much better GFX card than the X1400 Hypermemory, then waiting for the new one would be best if the price is decent. Though they might not have $500 off of the new Inspirion E1520, but if its under $1,200, it would probably be best to get that. Mainly its GFX that makes me think about waiting. -
-
-
It's not a dumb move then based on your logic as I have not canceled my order for the E1505. My point is, the fact that I can get a fully loaded E1505 with X1400 and all with a coupon for $500 off. If I choose to wait for the E1520, then the coupon will expire, and if the new systems come out with around the same price tag as the E1505 when I used the $500 off coupon, then that would mean that I practically got ripped off and should've waited. If not, then I believe that I will have secured a good deal.

if he can manage to get a similarly equipped 1520 for only $1-200 more, with the latest chipset than why the hell not?
the 1520 comes with many other features that the 1505 does not have at all.
his primary concern is the gpu, but the addition of turbo memory, a webcam, a media remote, dx10, more customization, better build and looks may factor into his decision. there are also many things that could potentially be improved as well, like the lcd, or the keyboard, or possibly an hdmi port?
even sony has realized that budget (<$1000) laptops need to be sexy. look at the vaio c and n series. or a better example would be all the HP's. the sacrifice for power over looks is not absolute for everyone. -
The HP Pavilions are ugly with their glossy plastic casing... I can't see why so many people like them. The new Inspirons look way nicer from the leaked photos on engadget etc.
Anyway, I agree that looks do matter. -
Well according to someone over in the Upcoming 1520, 1720 posting, who actually has seen the new line in person, the word is that they will be comparably priced with the current line. So much for your authoritative rant and personal attacks on the posters here. It's hardly appropriate for you to berate people on the question of whether they want to wait for a new notebook line to come out. In the absence of any substantial information, I think it's quite understandable for people to be hopeful about this new line, considering the possibilities.
Oh and you're comparing apples and oranges. The Latitude line is NOT the Inspiron line. And since when is a WUXGA a crappy screen? This would be the highest end resolution one could get, and at a premium price. The 8400 GS will not be an additional $300-400, rather more like an additional $75 or so. I believe this is the upgrade cost of the HP dv6500t. -
I may be off base here but the new 1520 is shaping up to be a real disappointment. Perhaps I'll just go with the E1505 before the great deal they're offering runs out this week. I'm sure the E1505 is not top of the line by any means, but the port placement, keyboard layout, price, as well as numerous other customizability options does not seem to be present in any other 15.4" laptop on the market currently. I'm afraid with all the changes eminent in the 1520, it'll ruin all the things that the E1505 had going for it that initially drew me in.
If anyone has a different take or suggestion, I'd be happy to hear it.
Otherwise, here is a supposed review of the new 1520:

Sorry if I missed it somewhere, but when is the 1520 due to be available??

Thanks for the follow-up!
Hmm, so the battery sticks out on the 1720? That's kind of funny. Any idea if a 9 cell battery sticks out on the 1520?
You say the keyboard on the 1520 is similar to e1505, but is the layout the same? My main interest is in the placement of the Ins/Del/Home/End/Pg Up/Pg Down keys. Can you remember where they are now on the new 1520?
And I take it that the info we got was correct regarding DVI and HDMI? No to both?
I'm sure you have no comments on this, but any word on pricing?
Lastly, how is the new 1420? Same exact design as 1520 just in 14" package?
Sorry for all the questions, but based on this info I'll either be waiting for the new ones or going with the e1505 (the savings are so great now). Thanks for your patience. -
NOOOOO!!! =[ Is this for all the models? -
anyone want to see pics of the 1420/1520/1720? Well here you go (scroll down the page):

I don't think I've seen a laptop as fat as the new 1520 before. -
JESUS THAT'S THICK, LOL. I mean is dell expecting this to be used a weight set too?
doesn't make me happy so far because I'm waiting for the pricing on this before I make my decision of which laptop I want to go with. -
i'M a beginer, so sorry to ask, but what do you mean by the SODIMM slot is underneath the keyboard? A hot Keyboard?
*EDIT* JUST A FAIR WARNING! One of the SODIMM slots is UNDERNEATH the keyboard. I can't wait to take some technical support calls on that one*
*from synOs -
Even thicker than the e1505... Ugh! How did they manage to achieve that?
Poor speaker placement, RAM slot underneath keyboard, and apparently no DVI or HDMI... it better be a good price! At least the webcam and graphics card options are good and the styling seems good. -
I am wondering if I should wait as well. I am not a heavy gamer and I mainly need the laptop for college but i do play City of Heroes/Villains. Can anyone tell me how well the game runs on E1505?
I have placed an order for an E1505 and just found out about the 1520s. Below are the specs of the E1505 I built.
Intel® Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB)
1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHZ, 2 DIMM
256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory
120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Thanks in advance. -
The 1520 is going to be formally announced next week, so I see absolutely no reason why you can't wait it out.
-
Except for the price difference. I would lose the great deal i got on the E1505.
-
Just went to the Dell site looks like they are not selling anymore 1405s and 1505s, new models should be coming in soon.
-
i think it's only thick because of perspective issues
-
To Elpaco25:
What mD means when he says it's underneath the keyboard is that it's underneath the keyboard. Basically, and i'm not sure if it's similar to the Latitudes, but you need more be more careful when opening the laptop front. It could be time consuming. It took me about 12 minutes to take out the keyboard including hindges. I changed the memory ram for latitude without disconnecting the keyboard's cable, just leave it aside. Faster this way, if you know what i'm saying. -
Get the 1505 now, for the same specs it's gonna be cheaper than the new 1520.
-
Or you could just wait one more day and make your decision then. e1505 is gone already from USA home&office anyways.
Cancel E1505 and Wait For E1520?
