Well finally and 3 screen res options now. I am more than ever glad I had a defective screen as I didn't have the option to order anything but the low res screen. Well here we go again...another order...I may not be as picky this time around though. Cheers!!!!

Ugh! I ordered my M1330 last friday! It's being shipped right now....and I paid $2190!

I just configured the same laptop and it was $200 cheaper....if I'm happy with my laptop when I get it, do you think I could call Dell, complain, and have them give me something; say, an upgrade from my 3-year RTD service, to 3 year complete care?

No, because the upgrade to complete care is only like $99. Call 'em up, ask for a refund, and if they, don't, just return it and reorder it.

    Schmitty,

They probably won't upgrade your warranty but there have been many cases where they have reversed a credit to the credit card for such a reason. Tactfulness is important however because nobody likes giving money back. Explain that its only logical and would be more cost effective to Dell than you returning it under the Total Satisfaction Program and ordering once again to enjoy the savings.

1(800)398-8977 is XPS Customer Support which should help you out.

Cool, thanks for the advice! I'll probably receive it next monday, so I'll wait until then. If i'm not happy with the build quality, I'll just return it and re-order anyway. If I am happy with it, I'll try to get some money back.

Yes...it will go down like this: you call in the return they will offer $150 off and even a day later they had another person call..they will try again ...i told them for the kind of jack i'm putting out I want it at least not lookin banged up...so i decided to return anyway. as far as how the money off works i'm not sure how long it takes to receive or if it's a coupon/gift card...but I know when I get my second one as long as it isn't chipped I will be happy ....the wireless N was awesome and the thing was quick....had the t7800 and 3 gig ram...I am going to the dell store in the mall to see the difference in the screens before I commit to which one...

In the U.S Dell will credit you the difference in price...if within 30 days the price drops below what you paid. But I beleive the price has to drop $50 or more before Dell will credit you the difference.
I'm sure they have the same Policy for Canadians.

I don't see the 359 off.. Where do you guys see that for the XPS line?

Nm i do see the discount. However, it's not really worth anything since it's basically jacking up the ram and HD.

Ha, I tried that, even mentioned the difference in price bit. They (several csrs over the two days that I tried this, at least 7 different ones) all said that there was no such policy. I told them that I had heard from various people on this forum that there was such a policy (Flamenko was, as always, a great help with this, giving me moral support and the xps number) but they said there was no such policy. To be fair, they also said that it was not a drop in price but a promotional offer (it was the Christmas sale). Anyway, I know Flamenko and others have had great sucess but I have found that it is virtually impossible unless you want to go through upteen csrs, waste a lot of time and endure a lot of humiliation as you sit there having hung up yet again with no joy. I have recently tried to get money off the regular price of a 1330 and had no luck. Every csr has told me that they do not give discounts for xps and most of them even checked with their supervisor. I do not know what is going on and maybe it is me, maybe it is just a phase Dell is going through but be prepared to spend a lot of time going through a whole lot of different csrs to come out with nothing.

Alot of times the CSR seem to lack common sense. It only makes sense for them to give you the difference.

All you have to do is order the new machine for the lower price, and cancel or immediately return your old laptop(they pay for the shipping back). Now they have to sell your cancelled/returned laptop at the outlet for an even lower price.

    OR
Demand to speak to a supervisor personally, the CSR will put one on. Explain the above situation to him/her, the supervisors are a little more understanding of the situation.

You arn't asking for anything for free. Just the current advertised price.

Yeah, is there a way around this by calling in (i.e. ordering 2GB and maybe a 160GB 7200RPM HD)? Canadian wise, it seems like a good deal :D

I am realizing that I always get stuck when they say no. I have made the case for having the discount (price drop or returning defective laptop and wanting some compensation), have told them about the price policy/forum experiences getting compensation and I still get no, even from the supervisor. Obviously there is something wrong that I am doing so I am wondering if my strategy goes wrong when they say no. Any thoughts on what exactly to say when they say no?

Yeah tried phoning in. The CSR and Supervisor basically say what you have on the screen is what we can offer. They can't change anything at all.

Yes it is a great price. I called them earlier and along with my EPP program. I can get an additional 6% off.. and if I go with 3 years complete care, I can get 12% off. :)

Be careful, you do not need to go for complete care to get the 12% off, just 3 years NBD ONLY, most of the csr's will tell you, you need complete care to get the discount.... not true at all. Better yet, if you have your EPP number order online, same thing.

Never knew that, but there's currently a promotion for the 3 year complete care package right now for Canadians, so it's a pretty good investment imo, especially if you have the dell EPP.

EDIT: I guess they pulled a fast one, it appears they're not offering the 3 year complete package promotion right now...ugh

This is a pretty good deal, especially coupled with the 12% off with EPP. I was about to order and then I had a question about my account through live chat and asked about return policy and I was told that there is a 15% restocking fee on returns! Ouch. Needless to say I haven't ordered. Still pondering the deal.

They never changed their policy. if you read your link, it states that it does not apply to Total Satisfaction Returns at the bottom.

Even those have the restocking caveat but it is reserved for extreme circumstances such as refused delivery acceptance.

Total Satisfaction is plainly spelled out, if you provide the right link, and you get 100% of your money back provided you are upfront with them with your reasoning.

Ya, I did read the bottom:

DELL'S "TOTAL SATISFACTION" RETURN POLICY DOES NOT APPLY TO DELL | EMC STORAGE PRODUCTS.

And it is titled: Total Satisfaction Return Policy

It sounds like the exception is only meant for EMC storage products, ofcourse '|' should be spelled out if it means OR, But again, if csr's are telling customer this dribble....

Thanks for pointing it out flamenko.

No, I made the mistake not reading it properly. Last year there were many who kept quoting normal warranties which I kept assisting and I ...stuck my foot in my mouth here (lol).

That is the policy and, as I said, they wont nail you for the restock fees except for specific circumstances such as failure to accept shipment. If you are honest in your return reasoning, they will ship u a return label in the mail after your call and send the courier.

The policy changed to reflect the 'restock fee' early last year.

    Sorry for not reading carefully.

I don't understand this. Why would they claim a restocking fee if you do not accept the delivery? At least one company has exactly the opposite policy. You must always pay the restocling fee unless the package was unopened. The reasoning is presumably that if the package is unopened, the laptop can be resold as new. If it has been delivered, opened and started up, it cannot be resold as new.

What would be an acceptable reason for getting a full refund?

I have utilized the Total Satisfaction Policy and gotten a refund and guided several through it as well. Nobody has every paid restocking fees.
I have also spoken to the warranty people from Dell who have explained this.

The only time you will be charged the fees is when you, for no reason, don't accept your order. For example, you order, payment goes through and its built. Its sent and you change your mind and refuse shipment and it goes back. Dell cannot sell it as new again as Dell systems are built by the purchaser. They do not sell prebuilt systems or configure pre built systems.

So, in this case you pay the restocking fees.

Acceptable reasons that have been utilized are everything from small deficiencies to "The system is bigger than i thought and not good for school". Their Total Satisfaction Policy is just that. They want you to be completely happy. I know of one who called and just said she didnt like the system now that she has had it in her hands and presto, full refund 100%. They sent her a courier mailing label instantly via email and she got her money back about 4 weeks later.

There is no company that goes to the extent Dell does to make you happy and thats why they are number one. Really, think about it...aside from the Total Satisfaction Policy. If you get your system and there is something wrong with it...you just call in and they build another and send it. Only afer you receive it do u send one back. I know of a few people who had 3 new systems sent before finally being happy.

Hmmmm $359Cdn....to.....$619US.....off.... guess our prices suck again... funny how that happens....thank you Dell... so kind of you.

e.g: A Tricked out T7700 system with the same spec's on EPP (before tax)

    Canada: $1,803.12

    US of A: $1,495.12

Ya, and if you look at all the tiny details our brothers down south gain even more.... you want a new system, please go b!tch at Dell Canada EPP over the difference!!! Better yet, go assault your local kiosk salesman, I'm sure you'll get a better deal.

Please don't quote me the 10:1 - 100:1 ratio cr@p.... make prices the same and watch what happens to that.

Apart from the relatively large price discrepancy between us and our southern neighbours, they also get the option of selecting no additional software, such as Works 8.0, Office Trial, Anti-virus trials etc...

It's not a big deal really but it would be nice of Dell Canada to offer the same bloat-free systems at customers' request.

Oh well, us Canadians always seem to get the shaft from Dell one way or another....

this is exactly why I don't want to purchase a Dell laptop. Canadians always get the short end of the stick. I even tried talking to the CSR see if they can do anything about matching the American price. Those outsourced reps are so stuck up and stubborn. All they say is why don't you just buy it from somewhere else. I just wish I can purchase from the Dell US. =(

You'll have a much better chance of a price reduction with a Dell sales rep at a Kiosk, they also do EPP sales... face to face is the best.

I tried to go through a kiosk. I have a friend who also works at a Dell Kiosk in a mall. No chance of giving me a discount or any sort. I guess I am going to wait for a better deal. I just wish they had the 100 discount going on still from the holidays. That is better than any discount that is being offered right now since it's 100 off any price or any customization.

It's about time canadians get a decent xps deal (still crap in comparison to the united states), also you'll notice the option for the thin and light led display is there.

Man that deal stinks in comparison to the deals USA gets lol

I followed an ad I saw while visiting The Weather Network and it showed the $359 off deal. Previous to this I was spec'ing out a barebones system, since I was going to upgrade the memory and harddrive myself to 4GB of Corsair and 200GB of Hitachi with 16MB cache.

This $359 off deal works out to $1 more than I was spec'ing and instead of a 120GB 5400rpm it's a 250GB 5400rpm and instead of 1GB of memory it's 3GB of memory. If anything, these would fetch a higher price if resold. Actually, would I be able to use M1330 memory in my 710m?
