I recently got a laptop with an Nvidia MX150 dGPU. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 7586 2-in-1 w/4K screen. It was temperature throttling at a pretty low 63C. However, MSI Afterburner was unable to change the temperature target or voltage.

ASUS Tweak 2 OTOH was able to adjust the temperature target. Bumping the temp up to 78C improved performance significantly, but I'm not sure how safe it is to run the GPU at that temp for long periods. I'd prefer to undervolt it, but I even Asus Tweak 2 won't allow me to undervolt.

TL;DR Is it safe to run the MX150 at 78C for long periods? Is there any way to undervolt the MX150?

It should be "safe" but (as you noticed) the performance will suffer due to throttling.

I am not sure if it will work with the MX150, but try undervolting this way if you have not already tried. Maybe it will work. (It does not work on AMD, Quadro or older NVIDIA GPUs.) Included in the video you will find instructions for unlocking the voltage slider. Whether it actually works or not you will need to find out. If it does not, then the voltage curve tool might work (also demonstrated in the video). You should also see if NVIDIA Inspector voltage slider works if what is shown in the video does not. (Probably will not, but it would be worth investigating.)

Thanks for the tutorial. Unfortunately, MSI Afterburner still does not let me change the temperature limit even after the proposed changes. However, I was able to apply the same principles to Asus GPU Tweak II, and can now raise the temp limit *and* undervolt.

Thanks again for the great guide!
