I just got the vostro 1400.. and don't have the patience to install XP.

The only XP program so far that wouldn't run on Vista is my AIM version 5.x
Right click it "compatibility>compatibility mode> select windows 2000 or XP and you have to restart the computer. And AIM ran fine!

i will never use AIM again after finding a program called Pidgin. i think it is the new name of GAIM with some tweaks and cosmetics changed.

I believe windows 2000 also had it also... but it doesn' matter how old the news is... as long as it's useful to current events

Just use Trillian. Uses minimal memory and you can communicate via AIM, ICQ, IRC, Windows Live, and Yahoo Messenger all at the same time. I dont know if Trillian Basic has audio chat even, but Trillian Pro has both audio and video chat. I am curious to know how video chat works via Windows Live and Yahoo, and audio chat through Jabber (Google Talk). If anyone has used Trillian Pro for this (trial or through purchase) please let me know.

    Thanks

I would use the video chat, but Trillian Astra doesn't have it :(

I suspect many people are concerned more about driver support in Vista than application compatibility, which this "easy fix" does not fix :/

AIM 5.9(whatever, the latest one right before that new aim 6.0 crap came out) works perfectly fine on my computer(even though it's defected).

Still waiting for the new laptop to arrive. :)

I don't think that would be considered as a fix.
