When I first turned on my new laptop today, a wizard came up for me to enroll my fingerprints for startup. I did a clean install and now I can't get it to work anymore! I installed the drivers from the dvd, then installed them from the dell site, and even updated the BIOS. I checked the device manager and it says drivers are up to date and the hardware is working okay. There is a directory for the fingerprint reader in program files but none of the apps do anything really. How can I get this to work? I don't see any options.

I don't know the answer to this, but it's just another disappointment in what appears to be a big simmering pot of disappointment cooked up by Dell with these Studio laptops. HP's HDX line is hugely superior, doesn't seem to have a fraction of the complaints, all at the same price point as the 1537 and 1737. I'm starting to regret not going that route; I'd probably have my computer already.

I apologize for not being able to give any detailed info, but, in addition to the OS and drivers - which you mentioned installing - there's also an application that needs to be installed.

Again, I'm sorry I don't remember the actual name of the app, but, I barely remember it from my short-lived XPS 1530.

I'd assume that it would be included on one of the disks included with your system. Otherwise, it, just like the drivers, should be available on Dell's support website.

This is just a vague suggestion - but, hopefully, it'll get you going in the right direction.

You are right, I believe I need the DigitalPersona software. I have no such cd, no download from dell, or any other way of getting it but buying it. There is a guide on this forum to get the HP version and get it to work on Dells, but I can't even find the temp folder with the setup file in it, it's not in the directory the tutorial said it should be in.
What's worse, is I was on the phone with some Indian tech support for 90 minutes yesterday while he made sure I had drivers and checked every other thing I had done 2 times before. Then he tells me to reformat (for the 3rd time in 24 hours) and install the drivers in a specific order, which also failed. He calls back today after I reformatted, and when I tell him it didnt work but I think im missing software, he tells me he has to do some research and will get back with me. HOW THE HELL IS THIS SO HARD? To anyone else with a studio and fingerprint reader. Do you have this software?

Well, you should have the CD. If you don't as you say then I would call back to tech support and demand to speak with a supervisor. The fact that this tech you spoke with hasn't a clue about what is going on is NOT your fault. Inept people kill the persona of what "QUALITY" customer service is. TO believe that he had you reformat the PC to fix the fingerprint scanner is beyond me. But...... I know that there is a link to this software somewhere. I will try looking for it.

    Best of luck,

    Rob
