I'm trying to order a Dell Inspiron 6000 online and use a $750 coupon that expires tomorrow at 6 am. It has to be used on the home/home office site. I can't configure a system on that site with the RPM hard drive I want. It doesn't tell you the RPM so I called Dell and they said it's 4200. That's not an acceptable speed to me. I want at least 5400 and there's no way to select that online. They sent me a quote for a system with 7200 RPM but when I tried to buy the quote online, the coupon wouldn't work because they'd set me up in small business. So I called again and got someone to quote me out of the home/home office division but the coupon still didn't work. Apparently it only works if you configure everything totally online but I can't get the RPM hard drive I want if I do that and also I'd like a faster processor than they allow you to choose in the home/home office division for the Inspiron 6000. Does anyone know a way around this? How can you get it to allow you to choose specs other than what they list or can you? I did a chat session online with Dell about this and that was absolutely no help.

You could buy another hard drive yourself and install it.

7200 rpm hard drive is an absolute must for me, and I've had considerable trouble finding an affordable laptop with that speed drive. I phoned Dell and they did set it up for me (I failed in the credit dept though).

I have been wondering how feasible it is to just go with a system with a crummy speed and just buy the 7200 drive and install it myself. This is my first laptop...could I get some input on how possible that is to do?

    thanks!
