I was trying to save a copy of Dell PC Restore on DVD for future use following the instructions on Dan Goodell's website for saving a copy of the the Ghost Image before reformatting and getting a clean XP install.
All went well using ptedit32 but I couldn't find the file bin\mouse.exe or bin\recover.exe which the instructions said I should also save on the DVD. My machine is brand new and I was wondering if Dell is using new files or are the hidden on the utility partion now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Yes, different files.

Dell has started shipping systems with DSR partitions that boot WinPE instead of DOS. This change is required because the current systems are shipping with a preinstalled trialware copy of Ghost 10, and Ghost 10 cannot run under DOS.

On these Ghost-10 systems, Ctrl+F11 boots a WinPE variant ("Dell/Symantec Recovery Environment") instead of DOS. The original "as-shipped" image is still the old Ghost 2003 format. However, Ghost 10 can't read the Ghost 2003 format, and you can't run the old recover.exe under WinPE. Symantec's solution is a utility called (IIRC) "GhostRecovery.exe", which runs under WinPE but reads the older file format.

Unfortunately, GhostRecovery.exe doesn't run under DOS, so it will do you no good to copy that file to DVD because you have no way of running it. Contact me by email (see my website) and I might be able to suggest some workarounds.
