Ethernet Controller is your LAN adapter, For SM Bus controller install Intel Mobile Chipset drivers. I’m not exactly sure about the Base System Device (Card reader perhaps?). Go to support.dell.com and install proper drivers for all the devices you have like card readers, BT adapters etc..

From what I saw is the Ethernet one, IT must be the Broadcom 10/100 LAN port on your computer. Other Base system I dont' really know.

I have a short check list that you could verify whether you installed them or not

    - Sigmatel Audio
    - INtel Wireless
    - ATI video drivers
    - Ricoh Memory card reader
    -Ethernet LAN driver
    - MOdem Conexant
    - mobile chipset ( i dont' know about this one but just install it just in case)
I think you're missing the Ethernet one. http://support.dell.com/support/dow...400/E1505&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=2966&libid=5

Your best bet is to put your Express Service Code in through Dell's website and it will present you with a list of drivers. LAN adapter will be the Broadcom and Base System Devices from the message boards are the Memory Card Readers. All the drivers you need should be available for download from Dell's site or you can go to Driver's Guide to find them.

Intel Mobile Chipset driver has all the configuration settings/files (INF files) required to properly identify and install correct system drivers specific to a particular mobile chipset. These include drivers for AGP, USB, PCI controllers and many other such system devices. Normally Windows XP automatically installs most of these but it is better to install chipset drivers to ensure that everything is working at its best. You can download it from support.dell.com or from Intel downloads section.

For Ethernet adaptor most probably Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller will work

For card reader install Ricoh R5C832 driver.

I just did a clean install of MCE on my laptop that I got back from service. Those base system device unknowns will go once you install the Ricoh driver. Not sure why Dell doesn't include that on the Downloads screen for the 6400/E1505, would solve some confusion.

It is there, but they have placed it under Chipset category. Refer my previous post for the direct link.

do you need the "Dell Notebook System Software" driver type deal. How many drivers should you roughly end up with after downloading them from the site. I currently have like 10 downloaded.

    I have:

    Ricoh drivers
    Broadcom Drivers
    Ati Drivers
    Chipset Drivers
Bios a11 or w/e it is
    Communications (modem i think) driver
    Wireless driver
    Audio Driver
    System Software
    Diagnostics (do i need this)
    touchpad driver
