I am having trouble choosing. I've read that there are two manufacturers of the LED screen.. and one of them has bad viewing angles. I also know that the LED screens are brigther than their CCFL counterparts. So the point is that I've read complaints of the LED screens.

I have not read any complaints in regards to the CCFL though. People mentioned that the viewing angles were good especially the vertical viewing angle. In addition, it was still pretty bright and had crisp/clear image quality.
The CCFL screen was also sturdier with no flex due to its thickness.

Gun to ur heard... which one would u choose?

I'd probably chose LED. You can always send it back if you don't like the screen and request another one with a higher quality.

Another question.. I know that the LED screens are TN panels. Is the CCFL screen a TN panel as well? Thanks.

I have an LED with the "bad viewing angles" and it's still loads better than any CCFL. LED no question.

I've got the CCFL on my m1330 and have absolutely no complaints at all. I saw an LED m1330 at a Dell Kiosk and IMO, the difference isn't worth the extra money.

LED - its a no brainer decision. certainly for me its one of the few brightest panels i've seen on a laptop.

The LED is the brightest panel I've seen on a laptop, though I don't think it's worth $300 - you can almost buy yourself a spare cheap laptop for that money.

LED if you got the money. If you are a poor college student like me, Food > LED.

I've read that the LED screen yields more battery life, is there some truth in this? If so, how much extra are we talking here?

LED > lighter notebook, better battery life, better screen
    CFL > cheaper

If u hv money go for LED !!

Lighter Notbook - Marginally, and probably not really noticeable unless you break out a set of scales.

    Better Battery - Again.....marginally.

Better Screen - Purely Subjective. The LED m1330 I saw at a Dell Kiosk was certainly not better than my CCFL m1330....IMO.

Well, in your opinion, but in many people's opinion the LED's better. Seeing one and working with one is a different thing. Just my opinion here. Different settings (contrast, brightness) can influence people.

Agreed, and I did play with the settings on the LED screen at the Kiosk to see if that would make a difference.

Unless it was defective, or it had been abused by passers by, I saw no benefit over my own.

With the price of the LED at $300, I wouldn't do it.

I got mine when the price for the LED w/webcam was a $100 upgrade -- then it is def worth it :)

on my older notebooks with CCFL, it is virtually impossible to use it under sunlight. the LEDs on the dell are way better

Having worked on both, I would say that the LCD FEELS significantly bulkier and heavier than the LED, though the CCFL I checked today had a very nice and bright LG panel and is still a nice size and weight overall.

I still would not spend $300 on the upgrade. It's not worth that kind of money, particularly if it bumps up the laptop by 20% or more.

Although the LED is alot cooler and more uniform in brightness, the CFLs aren't exactly ragged. It's like comparing a Mercedes to a Lexus. One may be nicer than the other, but they were both ridiculously nice from the start.
