So the LCD screen on my Dell Inspiron 1521 stopped working a few months back. I wasn't really worried about it at the time, but now I've decided I want to get use out of it again, so I'd like to hook it up to my monitor. The problem is, I can't get any monitor to actually display the picture, and I have no idea why that is. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to this stuff, so please, even the most basic suggestions help. Is there some sort of switch I'm missing that I need to hit? Is it because the actual screen has stopped working?

Are you trying to connect through VGA? Hit Fn + F8 to pipe out to another source.

I googled it, and yes, I am. I've tried hitting Fn + F5 to no avail.
