OK, so say that you buy a new dell with the basic one year limited warranty. two or three months down the road you get a major component of your laptop replaced under warranty, say for example LCD/motherboard/GPU/ or even get the entire laptop replaced.
My question is, if something major like this happens would you still be eligible to buy the extended warranty for your laptop (say an extra 2/3 years) or would they refuse to extend your warranty coz you made a major claim with the one year warranty that you had??
Anyone know??

I don't see why they wouldn't take your money for an extended warranty--they make a lot of cash on warranties. No one knows for sure but Dell, give them a ring if interested, but I'd be very surprised if they refused.

I've been seriously considering calling dell to get my screen replaced under the warranty (too dim) but I have been thinking about this lately specially that i have a 1 yr warranty at the moment but I might upgrade to a 3 yr in the future. I'll have to call them and check...

If dell does the replacement then there should be no problem, if you go outside dell, there would probably be a problem.

My warranty expires in feb 2008, so if i decide to call dell tonight and complain about the screen and they decide to get it replaced, can I still buy an extended warranty, say in Jan 2008 before my existing one expires?

Look up your service tag, then look under the warranty section, it will tell you your current coverage and available options.
Can you still buy extended warranty after a major component is replaced??
